Bible Meditation:
Psalm 145: 1-21

“GREAT is the Lord, and GREATLY to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable” Psalm 145:3

It is scriptural to CELEBRATE GOD’s GREATNESS: “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable” (Psa.145:3).  Let’s take a general look at the Psalms and a specific look at Psalm 145 as we learn to celebrate God’s Greatness. ‘Psalm’ means “Praise”! A Psalm is a musical piece, sacred song or inspired poem suitable for use in worship. David wrote and sang many psalms to celebrate God. The Book of Psalms in the Bible is a collection of 150 psalms, of which close to half were scribed by David. Twenty-three of the Psalms were composed by a couple of Levitical singing groups called Asaph and Korah. Solomon wrote two psalms, while Moses, Heman and Ethan each wrote a Psalm.

The psalms were written to be sung by choirs and orchestras. God longs to hear joyful sounds coming from His specially chosen people singing praises to Him. Music is found in every place and culture on planet Earth. Celebration is also a part of every culture, but most music is not sung or played to praise God. The world is full of all kinds of music – country, blues, jazz, rap, pop, rock and roll and diverse other genre – but many of these are either inspired by or written for the devil. God longs for music that gives praise and bring glory to His name: “…that you may PROCLAIM the PRAISES of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1Pet.2:9).

Psalm 145 is David's crowning Psalm of Praise to the Lord. Our meditation key, Verse 3 seems to summarise the theme of the entire Psalm. No matter how we search and discover God’s greatness in our own life, we will never plumb the depths. The best we ever do is only a slight reflection of God’s greatness that exists for eternity. His greatness, however, does not stop Him from helping His children; we are not too lowly for His notice. In spite of our sin before a Holy and Righteous God, the Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He operates over and above our frailties.

Verse 13 reminds us that God's kingdom is everlasting, it endures through all generations: Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.”  The concept of ‘forever’ is a hard one to perceive. Indeed, we are amazed if a nation lasts two centuries. Forever seems too good to be true, and one wonders why everyone doesn’t claim this God as their own! Simple, humanity is so steeped in sin, our hearts are filled with distrust. Based on our natural scepticism, we often think of God in the same manner – too good to be true or to be believed.

Verses 14-15 say: “The Lord upholds all who are fall, and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to expectantly to You, and You give them their food in season.” Just look at the blessings listed in Psalm 145: God has unsearchable greatness; is gracious and merciful; is slow to anger and abounds in steadfast love; is good to all; has mercy over all He has made; has an everlasting kingdom; has a dominion that endures throughout all generations; upholds all who are falling; raises up all who are bowed down; gives food in due season; satisfies the desire of every living thing; is righteous in all His ways; is kind in all His works; is near to all who call on Him; fulfils the desire of those who fear Him; hears the cry of the lost and saves them; and preserves all who love Him.

This is a Psalm to hang on to and claim as your own. It also confirms that our life here on earth is only a speck in the eternity we will spend with the Lord! Ponder Psalm 145, and pray today that your eyes will look to God, the only One who has the power to save you and keep you for all eternity!

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
