CHANGE AS OPPORTUNITY

Bible Meditation:
2 Kings 7:1-20

Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil – Ephesians 5:16-17 (NIV)

OPPORTUNITIES are unexpected open doors. They are often interwoven with CHANGE! When one door closes, another opens, but usually we focus so long and regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one that is open for us. At times, we complain because of too much change when instead we should celebrate for the unique opportunities they bring. The siege of Samaria and its accompanying famine provided a platform of opportunity for the defeat of the Syrians and Samaria’s economic restoration. Yet, the instruments of deliverance were the most unlikely – four lepers at the city’s gate who were willing to take a risk and change location (2 Kings 7).

Throughout the changing seasons in Joseph’s life, opportunities trailed every challenge of change that came his way. While in the pit, opportunity came through the passing wagon of Midianites merchants, for him to be sold rather than being slain (Gen.37:28). When in slavery, opportunities as he was exalted in the house of Potiphar (Gen.39:4-5). When he was falsely accused and thrown in prison, opportunities came as God touched the prison keeper, who made Joseph the head of all the prisoners (Gen.39:22-23). When Joseph was forgotten in prison by the King’s butler, God put a dream in Pharaoh’s heart which could only be interpreted by Joseph (Gen.41:14).

The best opportunities are hidden in the changes taking place in and around you. In the midst of changes, you must be on the alert for opportunities. They often appear without advance alert and may even come in the guise of adversity. Keep your opportunities antennae above all the mundane noise around, while you remain diligent in your business (Pro.22:29). When change seems threatening, reframe it as an opportunity. Do not allow negative events produce regret and bitterness. They may actually usher you into new assignments, wider experiences, and the very centre of your acres of diamonds.

If you are broadcasting when you should be tuning in, you could miss the opportunities hidden in your change process. In the midst of change, expect opportunities. Be on the alert. Wake up to opportunities. Get ready for opportunities. Be rightly and properly positioned for opportunities. Be sensitive to hear and answer opportunities knocks. Seize opportunities.

Prayer:
Lord, grant me the vision, wisdom, and insight, to see and lay hold on the opportunities hidden in the changes around me, and to maximise these for Your Glory, in Jesus’ Name.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
