THE COVENANT COVERS AND CONQUERS

I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD – Psalm 118:17

Praise the LORD who has taken us through various dimensions of His Covenant Word in this Month of October. Today we conclude on our meditations by affirming the efficacy of the Covenant in covering and conquering! The story of Mephiboseth very aptly illustrates the transgenerational Power of Covenant. The covenant between David and Jonathan triumphed! If a covenant between men could be so efficacious as to cover and conquer conditions, how much more God’s Covenant with His children!

The Covenant is a Covering. It covers against the devil and all evil, the world and its system. It defends against death and destruction! By the Covenant, God assured David: “The enemy shall not outwit him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him. I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague those who hate him” (Ps.89:22-23). Pestilences do not respect a person’s profile; they respect the Covenant! Security is not in sirens, but in God’s covenant promises (Deut.7:9).

God’s promises are supernatural and eternal. Moreover, His promises make you prized and precious (Is.43:1-4). His Covenant preserves posterity! Covenant understanding brings restoration of relationships: redemptive, marriage, ministry, parental, friendship, business, and partnership. Curses fail in the face of the covenant: “For there is no sorcery against Jacob, nor is there any divination against Israel…” (Num.23:23a). The covenant transcends generations. Abraham the covenant-friend of God is the Father of Faith (Isa.41:8-15; Jam.2:23). Isaac’s story shows that the covenant is stronger than any climate (Gen.26:1-3, 12-14). No economic crisis can conquer the covenant: Famine could not nullify the Covenant! The covenant covers, conquers, and is superior to all conditions: sin, sickness, shame, lack, and decay (Ps.103:1-6)!

Beloved, God’s covenant and covenant-promises – of salvation, distinction, life, peace, wealth, success, health, fruitfulness, increase, long and full-life – are not subject to wishful thinking. You must ENTER into and begin to WALK in the Covenant. God does not employ half-measures concerning His Covenant. He will not tolerate those who trivialize or do not respect His Covenant. He expects full, whole-hearted commitment of His people to His Covenant. By the Power of the Covenant, you can affirm: I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD (Ps.118:17). And so shall it be!
