PSALM 91: 1-16

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty – Psalm 91: 1

Psalm 91 is our main Meditation Passage for this Month of Divine Defence. This insightful Psalm reads like the Believer’s Divine Insurance Policy. It is a Psalm of comfort, encouragement, and admonition for all those who believe in God, to trust in His Defence, sure Protection, and supernatural Security. Whoever the writer of this psalm was – whether Prophet Moses or King David – must have been one whom others looked up to for protection, yet was himself in need of divine defence.

The story has been told of how God responded repeatedly to a praying couple with the words: “If you need help call 9-1-1.” The Holy Spirit soon nudged them to understand this to be a pointer to Psalm 91:1 – “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” God was obviously calling them to the intimacy of abiding in the Presence of the Almighty. Right from the second verse, the Psalmist declares that he'll trust God as his Refuge; and later in the ninth verse, prophesies sure rewards that should encourage others to do the same.

This Psalm of divine Insurance presents powerful promises to those who place sincere trust in God that we’ll be: securely sheltered in the Secret Place of the Most High, under His watch and protective wings (v. 1-4); delivered from dark, evil, and wicked spiritual powers (v. 3, 5, 6-9); and preserved under the protection of guardian angels (v. 10-12). We are assured of Victory over our enemies (v. 13), and multiple blessings of God’s favour, conditioned on our consecration to Him (v. 14-16).

Interestingly, even the devil had memorized Psalm 91, and quoted verses 11 and 12 during the temptation in the wilderness (Mt.4:6). Jesus never corrected this as a misapplication of scriptures. This infers that the promises of protection in the psalm applied to Jesus, but certainly do not preclude us believers from being co-beneficiaries. As with all God's blessings, we receive His protection by His grace through our faith in Jesus Christ. We receive divine defence through Jesus. As we begin to engage in verse-by-verse prophetic meditation through this Psalm of divine Insurance; may the manifold ‘secret place’ blessings of deliverance from destruction, supernatural security, and divine defence, be our portions in Jesus name. Amen!

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
