DIVINE PROCESSING (9)

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us” – 2 Corinthians 4: 7

GOD, through DIVINE PROCESSING, uses our human frailties and trials to showcase His transformative Power: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us” (2 Cor 4:7). The "treasure" is the light of the knowledge of God's Glory displayed in Christ (v.7). The "earthen vessels" are our physical, fragile, and flawed bodies. God chooses to place His divine, all-surpassing power in weak vessels so that the ultimate credit for the spiritual impact and victory always goes to Him, not us. With the priceless treasure of the Gospel in fragile, imperfect "jars of clay," the Lord ensures that all Glory belongs to Him rather than our own strength. Our value does not lie in the beauty of the clay jar, but in the priceless treasure that the Master has chosen to put inside of it.

Divine Processing shifts our definition of success, thereby highlighting paradoxical strength (vv.8-9). We are hard-pressed but not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, struck down but not destroyed. This demonstrates that God's grace is most vibrant in our moments of human vulnerability. Our trials serve a deep purpose – they strip away our self-reliance so that the life of Jesus can be visibly manifested in our daily conduct (vv.10-12). Instead of masquerading as having everything perfectly together, yielding our struggles can be an open door for God's Grace and Strength. Our struggles are not senseless; they are the medium through which spiritual life and grace are dispensed to others.

The present suffering cannot compare with the eternal Glory (vv. 16-18). Though our outward bodies are ageing, our inner spirits are being daily renewed. We are not crushed by the present afflictions; we are merely being emptied of self so that we can be filled with God’s surpassing power. The present adversities are considered "light and momentary" relative to the massive, eternal weight of Glory that He is packaging in us. However, Divine Processing requires a shift in focus. Rather than being overwhelmed by the weight of the world, we’re encouraged to look at the unseen; to stop evaluating our lives by the temporary problems we see or the transient pain we feel, but instead intentionally fix our gaze on the eternal, unchanging promises of God (v.18). Keeping our eyes on eternity, we can trust the Potter’s Hands.

In Jesus’ Name, I affirm that:

I am a chosen vessel; the light of the glorious Gospel shines brightly in my heart; and God’s Surpassing Power is at work in my life!

Though hard-pressed on every side, I cannot be crushed; perplexed, I will never be in despair; knocked down, I will never be knocked out.

I look away from the temporary challenges and focus on the eternal, unseen realities of God's Kingdom. The present troubles are light and momentary compared to the eternal weight of glory God is building in me.

My spirit is being renewed day by day, regardless of outward physical challenges. The Christ-Life is manifesting in my mortal flesh, bringing hope, healing, and light to everyone around me.
