DWELLING IN THE SECRET PLACE

LORD, You have been our DWELLING PLACE in all generations – Psalm 90:1

Yesterday, we began to meditate on the place of the Secret Place in the matter of Divine Defence. In practice, dwelling in God’s Secret Place belongs only to the righteous in Christ; those who have received the gift of righteousness from the Lord Jesus Christ at the new birth, and have been empowered to live a life of righteousness (Jh.3:3; Rom.5:17). Such persons go on to believe every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, as evidenced in their obedience. Moreover, the true believer will not merely “visit” but “dwell” in the realms of divine intimacy through worship, praise, prayer and spiritual sensitivity. God will then be ever present in all of his or her daily interactions, providing peace and protection throughout life's journey.

Some believers visit the secret place when trials come or when some dire need arises, but few take up residence there. To “dwell” means to sit down, remain, and settle in the sense of taking up a homestead or trailing out a claim over a domain. It means to possess a territory or a place and live therein. When you choose to dwell in the Secret Place of the Most High; when you passionately pursue and enjoy intimacy with the Holy Spirit; when you hunger and thirst for fellowship with His Word; then Divine Defence will become your guaranteed portion! Everything of God flows out of His Secret Place. Therefore, He desires and demands that you learn to dwell in His Secret Place as a daily and perpetual lifestyle.

God wants to be your eternal Dwelling Place – your “dwelling place in all generations”! He wants you to live, move, and have your being in Him (Acts 17:28). According to Psalm 90, in the Secret Place, you’ll discover the triviality of the material world relative to God’s immensity: “Before the mountains were brought forth…You are God” (v.2). You’ll appreciate the brevity and finiteness of Time on earth compared to the infinity of Eternity (v.4). You’ll realize the frailty of fleshly, natural life, compared to the solidity of Eternal Life in Christ (vv.5-6). In the Secret Place, you’ll learn to apply your heart to wisdom: "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain heart of wisdom" (Psa. 90:12).

The power of heaven is unlocked on earth when you devote yourself to the Secret Place. On the contrary, this present evil world system is strategically designed to squeeze your time and steal your attention from the Secret Place. The devil simply wants to keep the church busy about mundane frivolities. Therefore, believers in this generation, more than in any other, must cultivate a secret life with God. We need the revelation and realisation of the Power of the Secret Place. Only then can we enjoy the guaranteed manifestation of Divine Defence!
