FAVOUR LIKE A SHIELD

For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with FAVOUR wilt thou compass him as with a SHIELD – Psalm 5:12

Three living words: bless, righteous, favour! The Lord blesses the righteous with favour. The word ‘bless’ means to be divinely endowed to prosper. The ‘righteous’ is a person who has right standing with God through Christ Jesus; a forgiven one, without any form of guilt, shame or condemnation. ‘Favour’ is God’s Gaze, His wholesome attention, and the shining of His Face of delight and pleasure upon a person or group of people.

God’s favour surrounds “the righteous” like a protective SHIELD – a defensive Covering. The ancients used extensive and vast shields to cover the entire person from the enemies’ arrows. Favour is like such large, long shields that protected the soldier’s entire body. God is willing to compass, defend and protect His own with the weapon of favour. When the favour of God is upon you, you will be secured and protected against all oppositions and anti-favour moves of the enemies. This favour not only protects; it also attracts the favour of men. The first thing that people come into contact with in your life would be your “Favour-shield”!

Such kind of favour compassed the life of Daniel. He and generations of Israelites were prisoners in Babylon. For reasons beyond natural explanation Daniel obtained favour at strategic points in destiny: “Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs” (Dan.1:9). In the account of Daniel 6:1-3, he had so much favour with the king that he was elevated to the prestigious position of President of presidents. Even though circumstances were stacked against him, this immigrant eventually became the Prime Minister in Babylon.

God is able to encompass you with His grand favour, so large that it forms a protective shield around you against sickness, diseases, demonic oppression and all onslaughts of Satan. The Almighty God introduced Himself to Abraham as follows: “I am thy Shield, and thy exceeding great reward” (Gen. 15:1). He wants you to know Him in the same way, with His favour perpetually surrounding you like a shield – protecting you and attracting immeasurable blessings into you bosom!
