GOD’S GOOD PLEASURE

For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for HIS GOOD PLEASURE – Philippians 2:13

God’s counsel, purpose or will is always good. Ephesians 1:5 says: “Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will”. God works in us not to will and to do everything, but “His good pleasure.” His grace is made available to manifest His goodness. God motivates and enables us to do that which is agreeable to Him; that which is in harmony with His will. The truth is, apart from God, none of us has the slightest idea about what is best for ourselves. To receive His perfect plan for our lives however, we must be convinced that His will is the best.

All of these mean we must absolutely believe that God is good, gives only good things to us, and does only good things for us. He makes all things – even negative things – to work together for our good when we love Him and abide in His purpose (Rom.8:28). To accept God’s will and purpose, you must agree and believe with Jesus, that God is good; believe in His unchanging goodness and the unquestionable goodness of everything He does and provides. Goodness is an attribute of God, a part of His very nature, and the standard of everything He does. The Psalms consistently testify to and declare His character and quality of being good!

God worked out and assessed His creation and concluded that all was good (Gen.1:31). The same God created you for His good pleasure, and is working in you, both to will and to perfect His good pleasure. He created you in His image; made you unique for His unique plan; set you apart for a special use; and designed you for His good pleasure. You’re not an accident of procreation. You are not a product of probability. You have great value because you were designed in God’s image and purposed for His pleasure. The Question is: Is God deriving good pleasure from your life?

God wants to define and demonstrate His Goodness in and through your life, for the world to see and glorify Him. No matter how feeble we may seem to presently be, it is the Father’s good pleasure to give us the Kingdom (Lk.12:32). Believe that God is good. Recognize His goodness in all He is, the goodness of all He gives, and the goodness of all He does. Never doubt that God’s way is always the best in all ways and at all times. God is good! Believe it and He’ll perfect His good pleasure in and through your life.
