Psalm 86: 1-17

“Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; nor are there ANY WORKS like YOUR WORKS” – Psalm 86:8

The Bible attests to GOD’S INCOMPARABLE WORKS: Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; nor are there any works like Your works” (Psa.86:8). No human creation or other invention can compete with any of God’s works. Here, David declared the greatness of God and the uniqueness of His works. In other scriptures, God Himself declares that He is without equal: "To whom then will you liken Me, or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One" (Isa.40:25). Again, He says: Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other” (Isa.45:22).

The Psalms of David are often the outpouring of his soul – his desperation, desires, downfalls, but also his overwhelming praise of God, confidence and trust in Him, and intimacy that defies all human relationship! It’s so easy, at one time or the other, to relate to these inspired verses and find comfort and strength in life. In particular, Psalm 86 is a mixture of prayer and praise. It is an earnest entreaty in which David placed himself in the position of a servant, in order to seek the help of his Master. Even though David was a king, he recognized that God is the greater King, before whom he was only a servant. The king therefore cried to his Lord and King to save him, as one who trusts in His abundant mercy (vv.1-7).

In verse 8 David switched from petitions to praise, with the expression of exultation in the greatness of God, and confidence in His marvellous deeds which gives hope of timely help. God is incomparable. He is in a class of His own, especially when compared with other beings whom the heathen referred to as gods. The Canaanites and the nations around Israel, for example, worshipped Baal, Asherah, Chemosh, and Molech. The Lord is not limited like these were. He is not local to a particular nation that worships Him. God has performed great works such as no other so-called god has ever managed to. Truly there is none like our God! He is Infinite! He is the Immortal, Invisible, and the Only Living God! (1Tim.1:17).

Just as God is perfect and peerless, His works also are matchless and incomparable! When observe this truth, praises would flow seamlessly in our prayers. David referred to God’s works; things which God had done. In his own life, David could think of the special anointing he received; he could mention the many times that God saved him from Saul; or the many times that He provided for David and his men in the wilderness. Though he didn’t mention those things in this psalm, many of God’s great works are cited in others of his psalms. For example, he declared: I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well” (Psa.139:14). No one can ever fully comprehend the amazing systems of the human body that function to keep us alive!

The Bible is a record of God’s great works, His faithfulness, love, justice, and power. The Incomparable Christ, the Matchless Saviour, manifested the Life and Works of the Father, like no other ever did, especially His redeeming work. The Word testifies to His works: “all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” (Mk.2:12b). Whatever aspect of God’s work we behold should always lead us to praise Him. He is the Most High God; worthy to be hallowed, praised, and glorified. We must acknowledge GOD as our Maker, Creator, and the Only One who deserves our worship and allegiance.

The, the Merciful God would show us signs for good, help and comfort us (v.17). He manifests Himself on behalf of those who acknowledge Him: “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him(2Chr.16:9a). Let us bow and worship Him whose works are incomparable!

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
