Psalm 119: 105-112

“YOUR WORD is a LAMP TO MY FEET and a light to my path” – Psalm 119:105

Darkness bows before me because GOD’S WORD is A LAMP TO MY FEET: “Your WORD is a LAMP TO MY FEET and a light to my path” (Psa.119:105). In ancient times, the only lights available for illumination were small oil lamps, no more than a palm-sized bowl, filled with oil and a single wick. They provided just enough light to illuminate a small area around a person. With their open tops, they were better suited for indoor use.

The world is cloaked in darkness, the natural response to which is fear. No one likes to be left alone in the dark. Danger and uncertainty lurk in the darkness. Without light, we cannot see which way to go. We feel exposed and unprotected. Many people still dread the surrounding darkness, even when there is a measure of light in the immediate environment.

Physical darkness fuels deep uncertainties, fear and panic. So does spiritual darkness – the absence of the Word of God, which is His Light! Many people experience the feeling of being in prolonged darkness. It would seem as if the night has descended around them and they can’t see the path forward. They’re uncertain about the path to take and afraid of the dangers and unknowns beyond their current spot. They’re tempted to stay put where there is still a little glimpse of light. Possessing a Lamp can however make a difference.

God’s Word is that LAMP that lightens our feet, not only to stand but also move: Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness (Psa.112:4a). However, an unlighted lamp is as useless as not having one at all. Such situation should never be the state of the righteous. The Psalmist declared: “For You will light my LAMP: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness” (Psa.18:28).

Proverbs 20:27 says, “The spirit of man is the LAMP of the LORD, searching all the inner depths of his heart.” Relating this to our key meditation verse infers that the more we feed our spirit-man with God’s Word, the clearer the light we’ll enjoy in life. God calls us to follow the path He lays before us; and often, He will only illuminate one step at a time, lighting our way with a small oil lamp: “For You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD shall enlighten my darkness” (2Sam.22:29). When we embrace God – through His Word – He turns our darkness into light! God is calling us to trust Him, even in the dark, stepping forward even though we cannot see the rest of the path. We only need to take a step at a time, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus and the single steps He shows us to take.

God’s Word is a lamp unto my feet. He’ll show me the way in the darkness, and illuminate the path He has chosen for me. When I’m uncertain and afraid, He’ll fill me with His strength, reminding me He is by my side. The Lord will help me to trust in Him, and lead me through the darkness and into His light. I will fix my eyes on the Lamb, and be illuminated by the Lamp. I will not walk in darkness, but follow the Light of Life. While the path of the world fades away, the Lord will lead me and show me His Way!

Prayer:
Lord, make YOUR WORD A LAMP to MY FEET; and as I fix my eyes on the Lamb, let my feet be illuminated by the Lamp, in Jesus name.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
