Job 11: 7-20

And you would be SECURE, because there is hope; Yes, you would dig around you, and take your rest in SAFETY – Job 11:18

No matter what we may face in life, our faith stands firm and strong in GOD’S WORDS of SAFETY and SECURITY: And your life would be brighter than noonday. Though you were dark, you would be like the morning. And you would be SECURE, because there is hope; Yes, you would dig around you, and take your rest in SAFETY. You would also lie down, and no one would make you afraid; Yes, many would court your favour” (Job 11:17-19). Whatever else Job’s friend, Zophar the Naamathite, might have spoken wrong, here, he definitely expressed the mind of the Almighty concerning the righteous! David confirmed this: “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety” (Psa.4:8).

In these days of pervading insecurity and violence, ‘safety’ and ‘security’ are dominant in the news. There are insecurities on every front: physical, financial, social, and political. Lives are on edge. The political situations of nations are shaky. How do we respond in a world filled with anger, hatred, and violence – one in which children and the vulnerable are at risk? However much we may try, we cannot shoulder the responsibility for our safety or security: The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but SAFETY is of the LORD” (Pro.21:31, kjv). We must consciously enlist God’s help; and He is willing and able!

Prior to redemption in Christ, safety and security were part of the Bliss of Eden. Adam and Eve were given a significant, authoritative role at creation, and also enjoyed a sense of safety and security. All their needs were provided for (Gen.1:29). They were completely cared for in the garden (Gen.2: 10-14). They had plenty to eat and there was plenty for the animals. There was no fear of being attacked or afflicted, until sin crept in! Then, humanity lost the sense of safety and security. The first emotion expressed by fallen humanity was fear, coupled with the realisation of nakedness and shame. In Christ, our safety and security are restored, as key facets of our inheritance and the riches of His Kingdom at our disposal.

Paul, in Ephesians 1: 13-14, revealed the basis for the Believer’s security in Christ: “In Him you also trusted, after you HEARD the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having BELIEVED, you were SEALED with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” There are two parts to this: our part and the role of the Holy Spirit. We are responsible for listening to God and believing His Word: processing what we hear and allowing it to reshape our perception of what life means (Rom.10:17).

When we hear and believe, God responds with the seal of His Spirit, to guarantee our redemption. The idea of sealing speaks of security. The Holy Spirit marks us as belonging to God, and that brings us under His supernatural safety and security. He protects and watches over all that are His. When difficult times threaten to overwhelm us, God will not abandon us. He comes to our rescue and guarantees our safety and security in all areas of life.

In Christ, we can victoriously sing of Safety and Security:

What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms;

What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain:
Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;

Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, leaning on the everlasting arms;

Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day, leaning on the everlasting arms.

What have I to dread, what have I to fear, leaning on the everlasting arms?

I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, leaning on the everlasting arms.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
