GOD HAS THE FINAL SAY

Therefore is the NAME of it called BABEL; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth – Genesis 11:9

The post-Noah generation desired to build and name a great city and high tower after themselves, but God overruled and the city ended up being called BABEL – meaning Confusion! “There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand” (Pro.19:21). Many there are who call their lands, gardens, mansions, empires and ministries after their own names. They forget that: “The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psa.24:1). From an eternal perspective, it is of little consequence what people choose to build and to call what they build. “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:” (Psa.127:1a). When it comes to names, God has the FINAL SAY and God gives the FINAL NAME! No project will ever endure and no name will ever stand the test of time, which God never sanctioned!

There is also the issue of MOTIVES. There are those who confess love for God by their words while rebelling against His will in their motives. It is possible to be honouring God with our lips, while our hearts are far from Him (Matt.15:8). Rebellion against divine order is like shaking feeble human fists in the face of the Almighty God (Psa.2:1-3; 2Tim.3:2-5). Rebellion come in varied forms including:
- regarding our finances and material resources (Mal.3:8-10);
- in our sexual relationships (Rom.1:26-27);
- concerning the sanctity of the marriage institution (1Cor.7:2);
- concerning parental authority (Eph.6:1-4; 2Tim.3:2);
- in the mission and ministries of the church (Matt.28:19-20; 1Cor.14:40); and
- concerning submission to constituted human authorities (Rom.13:1).
May we never have cause to shake fists of rebellion in the face of the Almighty or blaspheme His Name among the Gentiles (Rom.2:24).

Never forget this: God has the final say and gives the final names to everything!
