GOD IS TRUE TO HIS WORD

“…Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” – Numbers 23:19

GOD IS TRUE TO HIS WORD: “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Num.23:19). We’ve often been let down by family, friends, mentors, and colleagues who promised to do something for us, but for whatever reason didn’t deliver. We’ve done it to others too. The truth is, all have lied and fallen short of the glory of God. We have massaged the truth to make ourselves look better than we are. We have hidden the truth in order to keep ourselves out of trouble. We have said one thing and done another. We have given our word and taken it back. We have broken promises and reneged on commitments. We have spoken resolutely and failed miserably.

God’s nature is not like ours. Whatever He promises to do will happen. God has remained faithful throughout history and always keeps His Word. He has never represented Himself as who is not. There is no deceit in Him. Never has He given His Word and failed to deliver. He is the Unlying God; the Promise-Keeper; the Unequivocal, Decisive, True God. It is ironic, that Balaam was the man who proclaimed God’s trustworthiness – Balaam, a shady character and the epitome of equivocation and deceit. A foreign king had hired him to curse God’s people so that they would not enter the Promised Land (Numbers 23-24). But if he did, what would that mean about the character and promises of God? Did God lie about giving Israel the land? Had God changed His mind about blessing His people? Will God be unfaithful to keep His word? At stake in Balaam’s potential curse was the trustworthiness of God.

Thankfully, God can draw straight lines with crooked sticks! His Spirit constrained Balaam to prophesy that God is trustworthy! He never goes back on His word! Balaam’s oracle brought blessings that we experience even today. God promised that “a Star shall come out of Jacob; A Sceptre shall rise out of Israel,” and that “Out of Jacob One shall have dominion” (Num. 24:17-18). God has kept that promise. He gave us His only Son who died, rose again, and now rules at the right hand of the Father. Jesus is proof that nothing will stop God from blessing His people – neither a godless king nor a crooked prophet! Jesus is the most convincing Testimony of God’s Trustworthiness! In Christ all of God’s promises find their “Yes” (2 Cor. 1:20).

It is impossible for God to lie (Heb.6:18). God is true to His Word. The Bible is not just another book on the shelf of history; it is living, powerful and filled with promises made and promises kept to the letter. 2 Timothy 2:13 reassures us that even “if we are faithless, He remains faithful. He cannot deny Himself.” God promised Sarah, a child, and a year later she had Isaac. God promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob a land, and years later they entered in. God promised a Messiah and Christ came to bring us safely home to God (1 Pet. 3:18). God is true to His Word and always keeps His covenants. Whatever God has spoken to us will surely come to pass.

The blessings of God upon our lives shall never be reversed (v.20)! The shout of the King is among us (v.21). No sorcery will stand. No divination will succeed (v.23). God will remain true to His Words and faithful to His Promises in our lives, in Jesus name! Amen!
