GUIDANCE

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, HE WILL GUIDE YOU into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come – John 16:13

GUIDANCE is the third of Wisdom’s Triplets – Instruction, Counsel, and Guidance: “I will INSTRUCT you and TEACH you in the way you should go; I will GUIDE you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle…” (Psa.32:8-9). In other words, do not live by trial and error; guessing your way through life! Do not engage in activities simply because they are in fashion or in vogue or every other person is doing them. Learn to move in alignment with Heaven’s Light. Why must you be running helter-skelter in search of what the future holds, when you have the eternal Guide with and in you? Be assured: “For this is God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death” (Psa.48; 14). And, “the Lord will guide you continually…” (Isa.58:11).

In the Journey of life, God has ordained that man must be led and guided to his destination, irrespective of his age, level of education or , social status. Humanity will always need divinity in order to escape the pitfalls along the way. Your Redeemer has promised to “lead you by the way that you should go” (Isa.48:17). The Holy Spirit is our Chief Guide and Guard through life: “Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will GUIDE you into all truth…” (Jh.16:13). “As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God” (Rom.8:14). Once you’ve chosen to walk in His Will, there is not an aspect or detail in your life that God will not be willing to help you out with – no matter how trivial you think it may be. He has a definite Plan and Future set up for your life (Jer.29:11). He is committed to fully guide you every step of the way: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way” (Psa.37:23). Each step is like one day in your life!

God has each day of your life perfectly planned out for you. Your task is to live each day to its fullest, endeavouring to be the best at whatever He calls you to do. However, you will many times have to plan things out; while He will direct your steps as you’re walking in them: “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps” (Pro. 16:9). Man is simply too limited to direct his steps: “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps” (Jer.10:23). Therefore, one of life’s greatest assets is an unbroken communion with the heavenly Father and His Spirit, from whom divine guidance flows. On the contrary, one of the greatest tragedies of life is for a person to not know where he or she is going and how to get there: As a bird that wanders from her nest, so is a man that wanders from his place (Pro. 27:8).

Whoever is on a journey and does not know the way to go, must necessarily seek to be guided if he ever hopes to arrive at his destination. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Pro.14:12; 16:25). Man will keep getting frustrated in the pursuit of purpose, except he is able to lay hold on divine guidance. The greatest Man that ever walked the face of the earth, said, “I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me” (Jh.5:30). The Lord guided the children of Israel through the wilderness to the Promised Land, “by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way; and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night” (Exo.13:21). God is totally committed to guiding you! How willing are you to be led by Him?
