HEALTH

For I will restore HEALTH to you and HEAL you of your wounds,’ says the Lord… – Jeremiah 30:17a

Covenant HEALTH and well-being are vital portions of our Inheritance in Christ. But first, we must situate sickness and disease where they belong. Sin, through disobedience, is the ultimate cause of diseases (Dt.28: 22, 27- 28; Rom.5:12). This may not necesarily be the sin of the afflicted person (Jh.9:3). Sin disrupted the entire structure of the human spirit, mind and body, bringing a harvest of decay. The Lord Jesus Christ and His apostles often connected sickness with sin. For example, “When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you” (Mk.2:5). James exhorted: “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven (Jam.5:14-15). Psalm 103:3 also linked the two: “Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.”

Satan afflicts; but God heals (Job 2:7; Lk.13:16; Acts 10:38).  All honest physicians claim only the power to care and assist nature, not to cure or heal. Being a part of the curse, the true remedy for diseases must be the cross! Jesus went to the cross, spirit, soul, and body, to redeem man – spirit, soul, and body. The Cross is the centre of the redemption plan. Every form of sickness or disease known to man was embedded in the “curse of the law” (Dt.28:15-62; Gal.3:13). Satan works through demons who seek bodies to live in; and Christ has empowered believers to cast out demons in His Name (Mk.16:17). Healing is in the atonement and in Christ’s redemption package: “...by whose stripes ye were healed” (1Pet.2:24). Although Jesus paid for your healing, you need to reach out and receive what Jesus did for you by faith!

Faith in the revealed Will of God is fundamental to health and healing. Until you know what God’s will is, there is nothing to base your faith on. Healing is God’s Will, accessible primarily by faith (Rom.10:17; 3Jh.2). For you to have steadfast faith for bodily healing, you must get rid of uncertainties concerning God’s will in the matter. The power of God can be claimed only where the Will of God is known. Faith begins where God’s will is known. To appropriate faith is not to simply believe that God can but that He will (Mt.8:2-3). Appropriating faith cannot go beyond your knowledge of the revealed will of God: what Scriptures plainly teach. It is only as you know that God promises what you are seeking that all uncertainty can be removed and a steadfast faith is made possible. If God could, by faith, heal the soul, He can likewise heal the body! His promises to heal are as much a revelation of His Will to heal as His promises to save reveal His will to save.

Faith is based on knowing what God’s will is. Healing is part of the harvest from the seed of God’s Word. Knowing, believing and trusting that it is His will to heal infers that the “seed” is planted in your heart. It must remain planted and watered to produce a harvest. Stop wishing for healing with the faith-nullifying words, “if it be Your will.” That is like destroying the seed. There is no doubt about what God’s will is: He who forgives all...also heals all... Your attitude toward sickness should bethe same as your attitude toward sin! You must know and stand upon the Word in specific terms (Psa.107:17-20; Jh.8:32). The Word of God is the practical medium for our healing and health. The Word – heard, received, and believed – is health to our being: “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and HEALTH to all their flesh” (Pro.4:20-22).
