1 Samuel 13: 1-14

“…The Lord has sought for Himself a MAN AFTER HIS OWN HEART… – 1 Samuel 13:14a

Heart Transformation is about nurturing a HEALTHY HEART for GOD as exemplified in David: “But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a MAN AFTER HIS OWN HEART, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you” (1Sam.13:14). King Saul’s disobedient heart was not right with God; hence the Lord sought for Himself one whose heart was right; one with A HEALTHY HEART for GOD – David!

David’s name brings to mind: His victory over Goliath; his failure with Bathsheba; his anointing and call as a young shepherd boy; his challenges with Saul and later, with Absalom; and his friendship with Jonathan. While we humans naturally remember the spectacular, the traumatic and the glorious, God focuses on the HEART: “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do” (Acts 13:22). Such a life well lived and pleasing in God’s sight should be our goal!

We can deduce at least four qualities which distinguished David as a man after God’s own Heart, namely:

David sought the Presence of God: He desired God’s Presence from his childhood – “As the deer parts for streams of water, so my soul pants for you” (Psa.42:1). He found joy only in His Presence (Psa. 16:8, 11).  Even when he sinned, he immediately repented and prayed to not lose God’s Presence (Psa.51:11).  More than anything in his life, David wanted to live in the Presence of the Lord all the days of his life (Psa. 27:10; 84:2, 10). God’s Presence was terribly neglected during Saul’s reign. The Ark of God which symbolized His Presence was in the hands of the enemy. But David took definite steps to recover the Ark of God’s Presence (2 Sam 6:1-18).  A hunger for God’s precious Presence should be the desire of everyone who wants to be after God’s own heart!

David studied the Precepts of God: He found delight in God’s precepts. For him, the Word of God was tastier that honey and more desirable than gold (Psa.19:7-11). He meditated in God’s word constantly (Ps. 1:2; 119:92, 97). His heart was fully devoted to walk in the ways of God and to keep His commands all the days of his life (1Kgs.15:3, 5). Though he failed once, he quickly came back to God’s Word. His life was set as a standard for future Kings (1 Kgs.14:8, 15:11; 2Kgs.14:3, 2 Chr. 29:2; 34:2). As Believers in Christ, God’s Word in our hearts guarantees stability, purity, peace, joy and fruitfulness in life (Psa.37:31; 119:11; Col.3:16).

David always sang Praises to God: He was the sweet, singer of Israel (2Sam 23:1). He was committed to praising God (Psa.34:1; 47:6; 119:164; 147:1). He dedicated his entire life to the praise of God (Ps. 104:33).  He wrote almost half of the psalms in the bible, praising God in diverse circumstances of his life, including difficult and tough times.  Even after he became the king, he danced and praised the Lord publicly without shame (2Sam.6:14-15). Hearts after God’s own heart dedicate themselves to praise the Lord. God indwells the praises of His people (Ps. 22:3). He has created us that we may declare His praises (Isa.43:21).  Are we doing so?

David served the Purpose of God in his generation: This is the ultimate definition of a well lived life (Acts. 13:36). David devoted his life to fulfilling God’s Will and purposes on earth. He constantly prayed that God would teach him to do His will (Psa.143:10). We must strive to find, know, and fulfil God’s definite purposes and plans for each one of our lives (Mt.7:21; Jh.5:30; Eph.5:17). When we are fully committed to God’s Purpose, He will manifest His power in and through our lives to bless generations (2Chr.16:9).

We can become persons after God’s own heart: Seeking His Presence, studying His precepts; singing His praises, and serving His purposes in our lives!

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
