Romans 8: 12-21

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are CHILDREN of GOD” – Romans 8:16

One of the most affectionate affirmations a human being can make is to declare, “I AM THE CHILD of GOD”: The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are CHILDREN of GOD” (Rom.8:16). I am the child of God, brought into His family by the power and grace of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. However, it is one thing to claim such relationship with God, but quite another to walk in its reality. What does it mean when Scripture calls us God’s children? Children don’t worry when they have a faithful father. They don’t wonder if they’ll be able to eat, if they’re loved or if they have a place in this world.

The unconditional care and love of devoted parents lays a foundation for their children to have secure peace and joy. Our Father-God desires the same for us. He wants to lay an unshakable foundation for us based solely on His love for us as His children, so that when the storms come, we’ll remain strong in our Identity. Let’s examine what Scripture says about us, in order to respond to God’s Word in faith:

BUT AS MANY as received Him, to them He gave the right to become CHILDREN of GOD, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (Jh.1: 12-13). No discrimination!

FOR AS MANY as are led by the Spirit of God, these are SONS of GOD. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “ABBA, FATHER (Rom.8:14-15).

I will be a FATHER to you, and you shall be MY SONS and DAUGHTERS, says the Lord Almighty(2Cor.6:18).

Through adoption into God’s family we are now His children and co-heirs with Christ: “and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ” (Rom.8:17a). I was born again into God’s family when I asked Jesus to be my Lord and Saviour. To be God’s child means to be His heir and co-heir with Christ. This infers that all that is God’s is mine! He makes me a Stakeholder in His Kingdom and a Partaker in His eternal assets. God lovingly shares with me His kingdom (Lk.12:32). I have a Father who gives amazing gifts to His children (Jam.1:17).

My heavenly Father’s love for me is pervasive, powerful, endless, and boundless. He absolutely loves spending time with His children. I no longer have to worry about whether I have a place in this world or be anxious about clothing, food or shelter (Matt.6: 25-26, 32). I no longer have to live in pursuit of the opinions of others. God enjoys me. He has a plan for me. He doesn’t take being my Father lightly. He takes complete ownership of His responsibility. He will strengthen me, teach me, develop me, and give me a life of worth and meaning. To be His child is to be loved, treasured, and completely cared for.

My love-responsibility is to respond by faith to God’s word. I must, by grace, jettison the mentality of an orphan, and have faith that my Father is who He says He is and believe He will do what He’s promised to do (Rom.10:17). When I heard the message of Salvation, I received faith to become a child of God. As I continue to hear His Word and grow in Faith, I’ll increasingly enjoy the fellowship and favours of a love-relationship with my Father. I am His child. I have faith; it’s not something I conjure up. Faith is my response to God’s faithfulness.

Beloved, God is faithful (1Cor.1:9). Allow His word to stir up faith within you to respond to His promises. Allow the peace and joy of being His child to lay an unshakable foundation for your future. May our eyes be enlightened to see who we are to God and in Christ, that we may intimately enjoy the Father’s Fellowship for all of eternity, in Jesus name!

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
