IMAGE

"So God created man in His own IMAGE; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them" - Genesis 1:27

In the beginning, God created Man "in His own IMAGE" - as a SPIRIT being (Gen.1:27). He had proposed in vs 26, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion..." We are not told in any of the preceding verses that God created the "abundance of living creatures" or birds or "great sea creatures" in His image (Gen.1:20-21). They were simply "mass-produced" by His Spoken Word. In all of creation, only Man was "custom-made" - made in God's image and likeness!

God is a Spirit Being (Jh. 4:24). He dwells in the realm of the Spirit, far beyond and above the natural realm. He is supernatural by all standards. Therefore, that God made man in His image and after His likeness means that Man was created and made as a SPIRIT being. God made us in the class of His being! Our fellowship is with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit (1 Jh.1:3; 1Cor.1:9). God made man in His image, as and like He is, a Spirit Being. We are nothing less than that!

Genesis 2:7 spells out the details of human creation: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." 1 Thessalonians 5:23 confirms that man is a SPIRIT, who has a SOUL and lives in the body. Due to Adam's transgression at Eden, that nature or image was corrupted; but Jesus Christ has redeemed - bought back - that glorious image through His substitutionary work on the Cross of Calvary. Now, in Christ, man looks like God because the outshining of God's Shekinah glory and the express image of His Person, Jesus Christ, has restored to man God's perfect image. We who are in Christ bear the perfect and express image of God: "and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in righteousness and true holiness" (Eph.4:24).

We who have been born-again by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ must begin to live in the consciousness of our new creation status. This is the reality of our redemption and the foundation of manifesting as spirit beings and exuding the supernatural life in God: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (2Cor.5:17). Beloved in Christ, it's time to fan to flame the consciousness that you are a spirit being and new creation. You are not an ordinary bag of flesh, blood, and bones sauntering listlessly through the earth. You are supernatural by every standard having been born anew as God's child in Christ Jesus. In Christ, you have been recreated in God's divine image and likeness! Begin to live and operate in that reality.
