JESUS: THE FIRST

And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the FIRST and the Last” – Revelation 1:17

JESUS Christ is called Alpha because he is FIRST in everything good, noble, and glorious. In particular, He was the first to resurrect from the dead: “…that He would be the FIRST to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles” (Acts 26:23b). 1 Corinthians 15:20 also says, “But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the FIRSTFRUITS of those who have fallen asleep.” Jesus – The First, the Alpha – is your Door into Distinction!

Jesus is The First so that you can be first in your domain. When you have been introduced to The First, He’ll empower you to become first in all your spiritual and secular endeavours. If you are a child of the King, it is your Kingdom-right to be first. Jesus is The First so that you can be first in every good thing. He ordained you to be the head and not the tail; to be above and not beneath; to be first among your contemporaries; and to be the very best you can be in Him.

One of the secrets of becoming first is Obedience. The key to enter and occupy the first place in destiny is to carefully listen and completely obey what Jesus the Head says. Deuteronomy 28:13 says: “And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath; if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.” You cannot be disobedient to the First and expect to be first. Matthew 6:33 also commands that you seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Seek Jesus above all else. Seek Him daily, devotedly, and diligently. Set time apart just to seek Him. Search for Him with all your heart.

Is Jesus truly Lord of your life? Does He have control over your life? Colossians 1:18 describes Him as Head and First so that He can have pre-eminence. You must make Him first in every area of your life. When He has the pre-eminence, He’ll bring you into prominence! Only when He is Lord can you ascend the platform of distinction He has reserved for you. “In the beginning, God…” (Gen.1:1). As you prepare for New Year, always start everything with Jesus: marriage, home, career, business or ministry. Share all your challenges first with Him. Let Him be the firm foundation in all you do. Let Him be your Confidant and Counsellor.
