Bible Meditation:
Psalm 119: 103-130

The entrance of Your WORDS gives LIGHT; it gives understanding to the simple Psalm 119:130

I am highly fascinated with the word LIGHT! It is very significant in Scriptures. God’s first recorded words in the Bible are: “Let there be Light” (Gen.1:3). Light is like the ‘genesis’ of Genesis. There are over a hundred references to ‘Light’ in the Bible (New King James Version), forty-five of which were either spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ or related to Him. The Lord introduced Himself as “the Light of the world” and Giver of “the light of life” (Jh.8:12; 9:5). He also called believers “the light of the world” and admonished us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see…” (Mt.5:14-16). The Psalmist knew God’s Word as his Light for Life: “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psa.119:1-5). Do you?

Let’s meditate in God’s Word on Seven Functions of Light:

  • Light liberates from darkness: it overcomes darkness, “the light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot comprehend it” (Jh. 1:5). Light reveals the hidden works of darkness; it exposes and expels evil. Light cannot be boxed-in. Believers are described as shining stars (Phil. 2:15). We are exhorted: “…now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (Eph. 5:8).
  • Light lightens: the burdens of life. It takes the arrival of light to rise and shine: “Arise, shine, for your light is come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you” (Isa.60:1-3). Light is a key dimension of glory. Until light comes, glory is veiled! Your light ‘is’ come to stay; so arise and shine, and no darkness will hold you down in Jesus name, Amen.
  • Light lifts: as you walk in the light, your soul is delivered from death and your feet from falling (Psa.56:13). Jesus said: “…He that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (Jh. 8:12). Light is a lifter any day!
  • Light enlivens: brighter light gives better life. Believers in Christ have access to the Light of Life (Jh.8:12). Psalm 36:9 says, “…For with You is the fountain of life: in Your light shall we see light (Psa.36:8-9). Your light will shine out of obscurity in Jesus name (Isa.58:10).
  • Light leads: directs and rules: “God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night…” (Gen.1:16a). The organ of sight leads the rest of the body (Lk.11:34). You are led through life by light!
  • Light illuminates: it brightens your paths in life (Psa.119:105; Pro.4:18). Without light, no amount of crying can make one to see in darkness! Light also attracts attention. You can never be hidden in the light. You were designed to brighten from your world (Mt. 5:15; Lk:11:33). It takes light to walk through darkness, and to find lost items (Job 29:3; Lk. 15:8-9).
  • Light enlightens our spiritual eyes through the instrumentality of God’s Word (Eph.1:18). Light represents: purpose, vision, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, secrets, insight, guidance, direction, instruction, dreams, and goals.

That last function of light summarizes the next series of Words we’ll meditate on: the light of vision, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, secrets, insight, guidance, direction, instruction, dreams, and goals. These are key dimensions and practical manifestations of Light, all of which emanate from God’s Word like colours of the rainbow; and the Bible has much to say on each. May the entrance of His Words give us Light in all its multi-faceted dimensions and colourful variety, in Jesus name.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
