THE LIGHT OF LEARNING

A wise man will hear and will INCREASE LEARNING, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel – Proverbs 1:5

LEARNING is LIGHT. Information, Knowledge, and Skill come essentially through the avenue of learning. Learners become leaders. The best of leaders are learners. Even in the secular and natural worlds, professionals update information on the latest discoveries and innovations. Every notable innovation and valuable invention is rooted in accurate and relevant information. Learning is the basis of change, growth, progress, and innovations. Information brings discovery and recovery. On the contrary, ignorance produces foolishness, which may lead to cycles of weariness, wear and tear, wasting away, and vain labour: “The labour of fools wearies them, for they do not even KNOW how to go to the city” (Eccl.10:15). Ignorance leads to destruction and captivity. Ignorant people often end up as casualties, preys and victims in life’s battles.

A wise man will learn to implement and apply information correctly. “Wise people store up knowledge…” (Pro.10:14a). They acquire and accumulate knowledge. Learning takes place in the mind. The mind is able to acquire and store information or knowledge, and make it available for use when it is required. Practically, this could involve a variety of activities, such as: watching, observing, recording, hearing, reading, studying, meditating, associating, connecting, consulting, and engaging or utilizing experts. We can also learn from experiences (including our own mistakes) and from the mistakes of others.

The Lord Jesus Christ invites and admonishes us to COME and LEARN: “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you REST. Take My yoke upon you, and LEARN FROM ME, for I am gentle and lowly in heart: and you will find REST for your souls” (Mt.11:28-29). Discovery brings Recovery and REST. Information produces Impact. The Church is a place of learning – discipling, developing, equipping, maturing and training: “Many people shall come and say, “COME, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; HE WILL TEACH US of His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem” (Is.2:3).

Those who stop learning, start dying. Those who refuse to be informed and thereby reformed, are ready to conform, compromise, and be deformed or destroyed! Learning guarantees liberty and those who choose to learn ultimately lead!
