THE LIGHT IS SWEET

Truly the LIGHT is SWEET, and it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun – Ecclesiastes 11:7

Light is sweet. Light is good. Light is powerful. Light is beneficial. Light is valuable. Hardly anything negative or evil can ever be spoken about light! The Bible account of creation also testifies to the goodness of Light: “And God saw the LIGHT, that it was GOOD: and God divided the light from the darkness” (Gen. 1:4). The virtues of Light could be hinged on the diverse functions light performs. As we enter the landing phase of our prophetic cruise through the realm of Shining Splendour, it’s useful to meditate on few of the significant functions of Light.

1. LIGHT ENLIGHTENS: light represents vision, direction, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and instruction. Light gives enlightenment. This echoes the prayer of Paul: “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened…” (Eph. 1:18).
2. Light illuminates: It attracts attention and exposes hidden things. The world is a dark place and ‘many lights’ are needed to brighten it (Acts 20:8). We as light of the world are meant to brighten our world with the Word (Mt. 5:14; 2Cor. 4:6). Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” 
3. Light liberates: light overcomes darkness (Jh.1:5). It liberates from and reveals the hidden works of darkness. Light exposes and expels evil. Turn the light on, and souls are liberated from the dark dungeons of bondage and depression.  
4. Light lightens: it alleviates the burdens of life. It takes the arrival of light for one to arise and shine (Is.60:1-3). Until your light comes, the glory cannot be seen upon you! Light releases the power to arise, shine, and ride in the realms of glory.
5. Light lifts: Walking in the light delivers our souls from death and our feet from falling (Ps.56:13). Those who follow Jesus – the Light of the world – shall neither stumble nor fall, but have the “light of life” (Jh.8:12). Light is a lifter any day!
6. Light enlivens: Brighter light gives better life (Ps.36:8-9). Natural plants draw life from sunlight; we draw Light from Sun of righteousness. It is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun (Ecc.11:7). It is even more pleasant for our eyes to behold the Sun of Righteousness – the Son of God (Mal.3:2)! In Him is LIGHT and the light is our LIFE (Jh.1:4).
