THE LIGHT OF WISDOM (9)

“Can’t you hear the VOICE of WISDOM? From the top of the mountains of influence SHE SPEAKS into the gateways of the glorious city…” – Proverbs 8: 1-3

In order to be received at the personal human level, the LIGHT of WISDOM transmutes into the VOICE of WISDOM: “Can’t you hear the VOICE of WISDOM? From the top of the mountains of influence SHE SPEAKS into the gateways of the glorious city. At the place where pathways merge, at the entrance of every portal, there she stands, ready to impart understanding, shouting aloud to all who enter...” (Prov.8:1-3, The Passion Translation). The ability to hear and recognize the Voice of Wisdom is one of life’s greatest assets. Here, Wisdom is personified as a woman summoning all to come and receive her insight into the Heart of God.

Indeed, our Lord Jesus Christ is the Divine Personification of Wisdom: “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us WISDOM from God...” (1Cor.1:30a). The Lord not only radiates as the Light of Wisdom, He speaks as the Voice of Wisdom.

Wisdom Speaks Ways! Wisdom speaks to show us how to walk and align with God's Ways. Wisdom gives an open call to all: “She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, beside the WAY, where the PATHS meet. She cries out by the GATES, at the ENTRY of the city, at the ENTRANCE of the DOORS” (vv.2-3). Wisdom speaks at critical junctions and crossroads of life, to show the WAY or PATH to take.

Wisdom calls from “the TOP of the high hill beside the way” (v.2a). She calls to people even in remote locations. “Where the paths meet” speaks of the place of DECISION in life (v.2b). When the paths come together and we need to make a decision, Wisdom and Understanding will speak to direct. God is always there; His wisdom calling to us, wanting us to know His Heart and the direction to take in life. 

Wisdom calls at the GATE of the CITY (v.3). The City Gate, the place of authority, is where the elders and leaders met to make decisions that would affect the entire city. Wisdom enlightens them to make the kind of decisions that would work for the best interests of everyone. Nations and Cities are blessed when Wisdom speaks at their gates; whereas society is cursed when Wisdom is ignored at the gate.

Wisdom releases heavenly instructions for our steps on earth. Wisdom joins her Voice with that of understanding, lifted above the din of the crowd, to reveal God’s Heart (vv.4-5). Wisdom shows how God views things and the world, so we can make decisions in light of His Word. Wisdom shows where God wants us to go and what He wants us to do and speak: “Receive my instruction, and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold; for wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her” (vv.10-11).
