LIGHT OF WISDOM FOR WINNING

“I AM THE LIGHT of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the LIGHT of LIFE” – John 8:12b

Another invaluable spiritual Asset is the LIGHT of WISDOM for WINNING: “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I AM THE LIGHT of the World. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the LIGHT of LIFE” (Jh.8:12). Jesus, the Light of the World, is also the Source of all Wisdom and Knowledge: “In whom are hidden all the treasures of WISDOM and Knowledge” (Col.2:3). John the Beloved revealed Him as the Eternal Word Who bears the Light of Life: “In Him was LIFE, and the Life was the LIGHT of men. And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (Jh.1:4-5). In essence, the Light of Wisdom emanates from the Living Word!

Jesus didn’t say, “I am like a light,” but the Light of the World – all-encompassing! Using the revered Name of God, “Yahweh,” His claim was clearly Messianic. This was the name God gave to Moses at the burning bush: “Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you” (Exo.3:13-15). He was the great I AM who called Moses from the burning bush and the pillar of fire and cloud that provided a way for the weary pilgrim travelers and protected them from Pharaoh’s army (Exo.13:21; 14:19). He is the promised Light to the nations (Isa.42:6; 49:6). He is the LIGHT that lights up the world’s darkness: “That was the True Light which gives light to every man coming into this world” (Jh.1:9).

WISDOM is LIGHT. Foolishness is darkness. Light illuminates the Way and provides guidance, just as Wisdom does. When someone enters a dark room, he is not sure of his movements. He cannot see objects around him or properly locate them, and is liable to hurt by colliding with them. But when light emerges, all confusion vanishes. Objects becomes visible, and there is no danger of being hurt. For a large majority of humanity, life is like a dark room with frequent hurts – disappointments, perplexities, sorrows, and pains. But when the Light of Wisdom invades darkened hearts, confusion vanishes, difficulties dissolve, all things are seen in their true place and proportion, and people can walk open-eyed and unhurt. Wisdom is a Lifter of destinies. The Light of Wisdom enlightens, lightens, lifts, and liberates.

Light is a magnificent metaphor.  Light is the active power that dispels darkness. Jesus Christ is the Light of Truth that dispels the darkness of falsehood. He is the Light of Wisdom that dispels the darkness of ignorance. He is the Light of Holiness that dispels the darkness of impurity. He is the Light of Joy that dispels the darkness of sorrow. He is the Light of Life that dispels the darkness of death. He is the Light that never goes out – is never extinguished. Those who follow Him, their light also never goes out. They’ll never walk in darkness. He is the Light – not just to be looked at or admired – but to be followed. He is the Light that will lead us to the Kingdom, to heaven, to everlasting life. 

The Light is Sweet (Eccl.11:7a). The Light of Wisdom is uniquely sweet: “Know also that WISDOM is SWEET to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off” (Pro.24:14, NIV). The Light of Wisdom will teach us how to progress in the right direction in life: But the path of the just is as the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day (Pro. 4:18).
