MANIFESTING AS SONS OF GOD

“For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the REVEALING of the SONS of GOD” – Romans 8:19

God’s Purpose in Christ for all Believers is to mature into MANIFESTING AS SONS of GOD: “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the REVEALING of the SONS of GOD” (Rom.8:19). Creation is waiting longingly for us to acknowledge and display our divine identity as Sons of God. We must leave slavery behind in ‘Egypt’ and stand in our identity as God’s children – manifesting as His SONS. In the absence of knowledge, darkness prevails; whereas, acknowledging our divine nature in God gives us the authority He wants us to walk in. When we understand our identity in Christ as God’s sons, we can exercise dominion over situations instead of letting them subjugate us.

In the Light of God’s Word, Believers in Christ Jesus are not ordinary human beings. With the new birth, our identity has changed from slaves to sons of God. Moses was a servant, and so were the people who were under the law: “And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a SERVANT, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, but CHRIST as a SON over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end” (Heb.3:5-6). “The law” today refers to performance-based Christianity. By comparison, CHRIST is a SON; and we who are in Him are no longer mere slaves or servants, but sons. He came to bring “many sons to Glory” (Heb.2:10).

Son-ship is not gender-restricted; men and women can be sons (Gal.3:28). God made Man, both male and female, in His image (Gen.1:27). What is more pertinent to note is that we mature into son-ship in phases through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit (2Cor.3:18). Isaiah 9:6a prophesied of the Messiah: “For unto us a CHILD is born, unto us a SON is given…” The story of redemption began with Jesus being born as a child by Mary, begotten of the Holy Spirit. God, the Son came in flesh, born at Bethlehem, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. The child ultimately became the SON GIVEN: For God so loved the world, that He GAVE His only begotten SON…” (Jh.3:16). A child is born; a Son manifests!

Way back in the Old Testament, the Psalmist prophesied the Father’s declaration of His Son: “I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are my Son, today I have begotten You” (Psa.2:7). Matthew 3:17b records the fulfilment of this prophecy when He was baptised at Jordan: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” He Who was born as a child, matured into manifested son-ship: “So the CHILD grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of His manifestation to Israel” (Lk.1:80). The baby of Bethlehem grew into the wonder-working King of kings, Lord of lords, and Master of the Universe. Following His Divine Template, every believer must mature from childhood into son-ship! Christ must become fully formed in us: “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you” (Gal.4:19).

We are not meant to remain simply children, but fully mature sons of God: “But as many as received Him, to them gave He POWER TO BECOME the SONS of GOD, even to them that believe on His name” (Jh.1:12, KJV). The word “become” implies a process. It takes Divine Power to be born-again, grow, mature and be transformed into SONSHIP! Even Jesus was “…declared to be the Son of God with POWER…” (Rom.1:4). Human effort cannot produce a ‘son of God’! We access the power for transformation by receiving Jesus as Lord and Saviour, believing on His Name, and growing by His Grace. A baby is born in a moment; sons are produced through a process. God has predestined us “to be conformed to the IMAGE of HIS SON, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren” (v.29). May we truly manifest as Sons of God, in Jesus Name!
