METAPHORS OF GOD’S WORD

“But the WORD of the LORD endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached unto you” – 1 Peter 1:25

Most of our devotional topics for this month focused on some enduring and meaningful METAPHORS of GOD’S WORD: “But the WORD of the LORD endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached unto you” (1Pet.1:25). The Bible is like a beautiful diamond with many different cuts, which when held up to the light, reflects a sparkling kaleidoscope. No one symbol can communicate the whole of God’s Word. The array of metaphors used in Scripture to illustrate the value and function of God’s Word should materialise positively in our lives. As we appreciate God’s Goodness and Grace that have sustained and preserved us throughout this first month, and prepare for the second rung on the ladder, let us recall some of the profound and highly rewarding metaphors of God’s Word. Join me to prophetically personalise these Ten scripture-based metaphors of the Word of God.

The Word of God is a Lamp to my feet and a directional Light to my path, guiding, guarding, and progressively illuminating my life’s way. God’s Word is an internal map to guide me and an external beacon to expose the dangers around me. Blindness bows, darkness is dispelled, and fear flees before me as I walk in the liberating Light of the Word. I stand firm and move surely by the Lamp and the Light. As I fix my gaze on the eternal Lamb, my feet are lighted by the Lamp that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.

The Word of God is the incorruptible, indestructible, powerful, persistent, and eternally abiding Living Seed that is planted to produce bountiful results and release glorious rewards in and through my life. The Seed of God’s Word takes roots downward and bears fruits upward, to destroy dormancy, eliminate stagnancy, and activate fruitfulness and productivity in my heart and life. The Seed of the Word will always make a difference and shall fully accomplish the assignments of the Lord in my life, for great His harvests.

The Word of God is like Gold; it is more to be desired than fine gold or choice silver. God’s Word is of such inestimable value, it is better and more precious than thousands of coins of gold and silver. All the riches and wealth of the world are insufficient to purchase the illuminating, redeeming, life-imparting power of God’s Word as condensed in His Book – the Bible.

The Word of God is sweeter than honey to my taste, sweeter than honey from the honeycomb to my mouth.

The Word of God is like a Mother’s Pure Milk that should be craved for spiritual nourishment, nurturing, satisfaction, and sustenance.

The Word of God is like Bread for the hungry – my Daily Bread that supplies spiritual nutrition and strength, in order for me to accomplish His pleasure and prosper on His assignments. The Bread of the Word is more than sufficient to take care of all of my needs – physical, material, emotional, relational, spiritual, and otherwise – as I trust, feast on, believe, confess, and obey the Scriptures.

The Word of God is like Meat, Strong Meat and Solid Food – Food of the spirit – for my richer, fuller, more balanced nourishment, dynamic personal growth, and spiritual development and maturity.

The Word of God is like Medicine to all my flesh, the divine prescription and healing catalyst for holistic and whole person health. God’s Word is a Sent Agent for my total healing and complete deliverance from all destruction.

The Water of God’s Word releases sanctifying, cleansing, and purifying power into my heart, life, and walk in Christ; washing me clean from the dirt of worldliness, vices and negative emotions, and making me ready as a member of His Glorious Church – without spot, wrinkle or blemish.
