MODELS OF DOMINION (II)

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit – James 5:17-18 (NKJV)

Today, we continue on our meditations on the Models of Dominion, with the testimonies of David, Samuel, and Elijah:

• David testified to how he killed a lion and a bear with bare hands in defence of his flock. This was a prelude to how he would bring down the Philistine giant, Goliath (1Sam.17:34-36). While even men of war were frightened and shivering before the uncircumcised Philistine, David – the model of Faith – simply exercised his sceptre of dominion, through his bold declarations, as well as his faith-demonstrations. One out of five stones on a sling was all it took to cut Goliath down to size! What is the Goliath-like challenge that is facing you? If the God of David is your God, then the same anointing for dominion is your portion. All the Goliaths despising your God shall utterly fall in Jesus name.
• Samuel called upon God in prayer, and bought down thunder and rain from heaven (1Sam.12:16-19). By these, God showed Israel their folly in desiring a king to deliver them, rather than God or His prophet Samuel, expecting more from an arm of flesh than from the arm of God and the power of prayer. What earthly king can thunder with a voice like God? What earthly prince can command such forces of nature as the prophet could by his prayers? The God we serve is the Unchanging Changer. In a moment, He can command and change circumstances as He wills. When you put your absolute trust on Him and not on the arm of flesh, He’ll make you a Commander over situations.
• Elijah’s life and ministry was a series of supernatural manifestations of dominion. He was fed supernaturally, first at the brook Cherith, and then through the widow of Zarephath (1Kgs.17:1-16). Elijah subsequently raised the widow’s dead son, displaying dominion over death (1Kgs.17:17-24). While confronting the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, Elijah commanded fire and rain from heaven when he prayed, after three and a half years without rain (1Kgs.18). The Lord, in response to the prayer of dominion, answered by fire. James 5:17-18 recommends Elijah’s testimony of faith in prayer to Believers of all generations. On his exit trip, by the instrument of his cloak, he divided River Jordan (2Kg.2:8).

The God of David, Samuel, and Elijah is our God. David’s catapult cut Goliath down. Samuel’s command brought down thunder and rain from heaven. Elijah’s prayer of faith released God’s Fire from heaven, and later opened heaven’s torrents. You must discover your own instrument of dominion and begin to deploy it to the Glory of the Lord.
