MY DEFENCE AND DEFENDER

For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our King – Psalm 89:18

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I WILL deliver him: I WILL Set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation …” (Psa.91:14-16). What an exciting 30-days adventure in the revelation of Divine Defence it has been! The first thirteen verses featured the Psalmist’s confessions and exhortations. Finally, God Himself is heard speaking through the inspired words of the psalmist. Here, the Lord declares His intent: to deliver and promote those who set their love on Him. As you set your love on Him, the LORD will set you on high!

When God says “I WILL”, no power can debar His Way! He says “I will deliver…I will set him on high…I will answer him…I will be with him…I will honour him.” May all these and more be our portions in Jesus name! For you to know His name means that you're in communion with Him. Then, God will hear and answer your prayers, rescue you from troubles, and honour your faithfulness. He will satisfy you with a long and fulfilled life as you walk in His Will. By accepting His free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, you have the blessed assurance of eternity in His presence, and freedom from all bondages.

In this Psalm, God has reassured beyond the shadow of doubt, that He is my Defence and Defender. There are many uncertainties in the intricate pilgrimage of life. Sunshine and showers; calm and storm; peace and panic; joy and pain. There are multifaceted vicissitudes for the pilgrim in this mortal frame: victory and defeat; honour and humiliation; hope and despair; respect and scorn. But what a soothing quality of our Lord, that come what may, He is my Defence and Defender. Psalm 89:18 says, “For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our King.”  He defends me from all externals of life that threaten my peace and hope.

Justifying my own right or relying on self-defence in any matter is a lack of trust in God as my Defender. A deep and quiet assurance comes when my heart is secure in His Defence. When He takes up the role of my Defender – He will discharge His obligations without excuses. His defence is not only in the physical alone – it spans the breadth of every spiritual attack. Three enemies stalk me day and night – the world, the flesh and the devil. But I remain securely bound to my Defender’s promised protection. I remain under the shadow of His wing – protected in the cleft of the Rock. Jehovah is my Champion from all accusations and my Deliverer from all attacks.
