THE MYSTERIES OF LIGHT

I FORM the LIGHT, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things – Isaiah 45:7

The mystery called LIGHT was formed or manufactured by the Almighty God. He alone knows the deep and eternal secrets concerning Light. In His infinite Wisdom, He also created an alternate reality called DARKNESS, in line with His principle of Choice! In the here and now, the Value of Light is usually accentuated by the existence of Darkness. On the other side of eternity, darkness will have absolutely no relevance because the LORD Himself will be the LIGHT. Revelations 21:23 and 22:5 say: “And the city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it, and the Lamb is its light…. And there shall be no night there: they need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light….”

Although LIGHT is an eternal reality, the characteristics of natural Light could aid our understanding of its spiritual and eternal dimensions.

1. LIGHT has FORM. Light is real. It is a tangible spiritual reality, not the mere absence of darkness. Though intangible to human touch, light has FORM and SUBSTANCE. Light and darkness are both distinct realities. God says He formed the Light, and created the darkness. The Light partners with Peace; while the darkness aligns with evil (Isa.45:7).
2. LIGHT is ENERGY. Light is POWER. It is more than just brightness. Light is real, powerful, and impactful. Though naturally intangible, light produces tangible effects and undeniable results in diverse realms of human existence – spiritual, mental, and physical. Scientifically, there are forms of light that dissect metals and perform microscopic surgical operations. Light pierces through matter; but more significantly, light penetrates minds and spirits.
3. LIGHT is DYNAMIC not static. It may not appear to be so, but science confirms that light moves; even so, at very high speed. If natural light is so dynamic, how swifter would light in its spiritual and eternal dimensions be?
4. LIGHT has VARIETY. It comes in varying levels of brightness, colors, hues, and intensities. Even in the creation account, “God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also.” (Gen.1:16). If natural light which appears so simple, could be so varied and rich in diversity and functions, how much more the Light of the Glory of God, His pure, immaculate, utterly incorruptible, and perfect Light!
