ONE PLUS GOD IS ALWAYS MAJORITY

With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah – 2 Chronicles 32:8

When Sennacherib, king of Assyria, invaded Judah, Hezekiah knew that Jerusalem – the city of Peace – would come under attack, so he went into action to defend the city. He built up the broken wall and raised up another outside of it. He also “made darts and shields in abundance” and “set captains of war over the people” (vv.5-6).

It would however take more than military armament and preparedness to save the city of Peace from the onslaught of the powerful armies of Sennacherib. So Hezekiah called the people together to encourage them. In the face of their seemingly hopeless situation, he tried to instil strength and courage into them, by declaring: “Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him” (v.7). How could the king speak so confidently? The answer comes in the very next verse: “With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles…” (v.8a). That was their hope. Sennacherib had power, people, and prestige – an “arm of flesh” – but the inhabitants of Jerusalem had the Lord!

If you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, then you have God as your Shield, your Buckler, your Fortress and your Bulwark. His Power is at work in you, through you and for you. Strengthen your heart beloved; with the Lord on your side, you are never outnumbered! One plus God is always a Majority!
