2 Peter 1: 1-21

GRACE and PEACE be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord – 2 Peter 1:2

GRACE and PEACE are like Redemption’s Siamese Twins! Hardly can we know the Peace of God until we experience His Grace. As we are reconciled to God in unchangeable peace; so do we stand in the unshakeable grace of God (Rom.5:1-2). What a refreshing thought this is: grace and peace being multiplied in our direction; a bath in God’s grace and peace! The apostle Paul began all of his letters with the prayer “Grace be to you and peace…” (Rom.1:7; 1Cor.1:3; 2Cor.1:2; Gal.1:3). Peter however made it explicit. He began both his letters, “May grace and peace be multiplied to you” (1Pet.1:2; 2Pet.1:2). The verb behind “be multiplied” is used a dozen times in the New Testament and always means “increase” – moving from lesser to greater. Here are few important implications in these words for our lives:

Grace and Peace are experienced. They are beyond the objective status we have before God, but also the experiential enjoyment of that status. God made peace between Him and us by the divine act of grace and the blood of Christ (Eph.2:8, 14-15). But the two are “multiplied” to us; they are not static. Peter offers to and prays for us, to experience an increased and deepened experience of grace and peace – the overflow of serenity, strength, and sweetness. We can be borne by a wave of grace into a harbour or peace. We need to seek continually to receive gifts of fresh measures of grace and peace for new moments. Never assume that your present level of grace and peace cannot or shouldn’t be increased. You never have all there is to have. That’s why this prayer opens each letter. You always need new measures of grace and peace!

In this life we will never be able to say, “I have arrived. I have all the grace and peace I can use.” No you don’t. You always need and can always have more: “Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me His own” (Phil.3:12). The Christian life is not static. It is movement. We grow in grace and peace, or we are going backward. There’s no standing still. God is the Multiplier of Grace and Peace; the stewards of whose manifold grace we are (1Pet.4:10). Grace does not just happen, it comes from God. “God gives grace to the humble” (1Pet.5:5). God responds to humility with more grace. Also, Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal.5:22). This is the peace that keeps you stable and unperturbed, no matter the situation (Jh.16:33). The peace of God – Shalom – sets your heart free from anxieties, cares, worries, fear, stress, and perplexity. His peace presides over your heart always.

Two practical means of multiplied grace and peace are: Prayer and the Word. Paul’s unwavering pattern was to begin every letter with some form of “grace be TO you,” and end with some form of “grace be WITH you.” At the end of each letter, Paul saw us leaving our encounter with the Word and going out into the world, and he prayed that grace go with us. God has appointed that you experience more grace and peace “in the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ.” He has inspired Scripture to bring you multiplied grace and peace. The more you learn of the beauty and love of our Lord Jesus, the more you see His perfect work on the cross, and the more you position yourself to receive a multiplication of God’s grace in your life. Therefore, to experience overflowing increases of grace and peace in your life, give yourself to the Word; and be intimate with God in prayer.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
