THE PEACE OF GOD

And the PEACE of GOD, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus – Philippians 4:7

PEACE OF GOD, the second Pedestal of Peace is the experiential level on the pathway of peace. Isaiah 26:2 says, “Open the gates, that the RIGHTEOUS nation which keeps the TRUTH may enter in.” The Peace of God is the portion of “the righteous which keeps the truth.” To keep the truth means to obey or practise the truth. This peace comes to believers through the knowledge of and obedience to God’s Word. After one has been saved, it becomes mandatory to continue in the Word of Truth: “If you continue in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make your free” (Jh.8:31-32).

Through consistent, progressive practice of the truth, the believer begins to experience an inward peace, a qualitative state of “quietness and confidence” which serves as a guard and garrison against anxiety, worry, fear and other enemies of peace (Isa.30:15; Phil. 4:7). This is the level at which the practice of righteousness begins to produce Peace: The work of righteousness will be PEACE, and the effect of righteousness, QUIETNESS and assurance forever (Isa.32:17).

This pedestal is the portion of the righteous, saved, redeemed, and reconciled. By His mercy and grace, we whom God has forgiven us and reconciled unto Himself are privileged to experience and enjoy His own kind of peace – the JESUS kind of peace (Jh.14:27). God has opened the gates of redemption to us. He grants us access into all that pertains unto life and godliness. We have escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Peter 1:3-4). The onus is on us to KEEP the TRUTH, that is, to continue in His Word, for His Word is Truth (Jh.17:17).
