PEACE THROUGH THE STORMS

He makes the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still – Psalm 107:29

There are stormy seasons and tempestuous times in life’s pathways; times when life seems agonizing, rough, and tough. Times of physical pain, mental agony, marital strain, financial straits, emotional stress, difficult decisions, or even losses could threaten to engulf us. At such times, many become fearful and perplexed, plagued by doubts, and may even become lethargic in prayers.

Those who know the Lord through personal faith in Christ have in Him a calm retreat in the storms of life, even while the howling winds of trials and storms of tribulations are sweeping over. We can experience PEACE of MIND and CALMNESS of SPIRIT. An old seaman once said: “In fierce storms, we must put the ship in a certain position and keep her there.” The storm will not be the end of your life’s story. You will not be stopped by storms. You will pass triumphantly through every storm and God’s Perfect Peace shall be your perpetual portion.

The Christian’s winning posture in stormy seasons cannot be based on expertise, reason, or past experiences. Only a single course will suffice: fix your soul in one position and keep it there. Let your mind stay on God. You must stay upon the Lord; and come what may – winds or waves, thunder or lightning, angry rocks or roaring breakers – you must hold fast your confidence in God’s faithfulness and His everlasting love in Christ Jesus.

The Secret of Peace is to cast every anxious care to God: “casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you” (1Pet.5:7). Refuse to be overwhelmed by troubles and trials. Enter into His Secret Place. Fix your mind on Him. Ask Him for help. Trust Him. Receive and embrace His Perfect Peace. “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the PEACE of GOD, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil.4:6-7). In Him alone abides Perfect Peace and Rest!
