PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE FOR IMPACT (2)

“And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, on wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship” – Exodus 31:2

PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE for IMPACT reflects God’s Calling: “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, on wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship” (Exo.31: 2-3). The Spirit of God is Excellent in Performance and anoints for Excellence. We’ve established that God is the First and Perfect Professional, excellent in His creative work: “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was VERY GOOD...” (Gen.1:31). Having been made in His image, our work should reflect His Standard of Excellence. He says in Isaiah 60:15, “I will make you an eternal excellence, a joy of many generations.”

Professional Excellence is the commitment to consistently perform at the highest standards to produce meaningful, positive, and enduring change in a field, organization, or community. Unlike simply doing a job well, this approach flows from a deep sense of purpose and service to a greater good beyond personal gain. Ingredients of Professional Excellence for Impact are:

Purpose and Vision: A clear, divinely-inspired long-term perspective on the difference we want to make, which provides the motivation and direction for our work and keeps us focused on meaningful outcomes. Bezalel was filled with God’s Spirit (v.3).

Passion and Commitment: An intrinsic motivation and drive to consistently go above and beyond the required. Passion fuels the resilience needed to push through barriers, bottlenecks, impediments and challenges. Passion flows from the heart (v.6).

Consistency:  True excellence is not defined by one-time successes but constantly sustaining a high level of performance.

Exceptional Knowledge and Skill: Pursuing Expertise is the foundation for creating high-quality results. Excellence involves the mastery of skill, including foundational concepts, advanced techniques, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Character and Integrity: Uncompromising adherence to sound moral principles and ethical standards are hallmarks of professionalism. Trust is built through honest conduct and respect for others, which are vital for cultivating lasting impact.

Creativity and Innovation: The ability to think creatively and develop new approaches or solutions to complex problems, rather than just following existing best practices. Bezalel’s company was characterized by creativity and variety (vv.4-5; 7-11).

Collaborative Mindset: Fosters teamwork and collective success. The greatest impact is rarely achieved alone (Exo.36:1-2).

Accountability: Taking ownership of our words, actions, and outcomes; being open to feedback and learning from mistakes. 

Adaptability and Resilience: The ability to recover quickly from setbacks, manage stress, and adapt to changes is critical for sustaining excellence over the long term.
