REWARDS OF THE UPRIGHT

His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the UPRIGHT will be blessed – Psalm 112:2

Numerous rewards abound towards those who walk and live uprightly. Psalm 112 encapsulates some of the blessings that are divinely tagged to the upright, such as: divine intimacy, defence, illumination, prosperity, establishment, divine delight, and eternal inheritance.

Divine Intimacy: a special closeness of God to the upright. God watches over them: “…His countenance beholds the upright” (Ps. 11:7); and “…the prayer of the upright is His delight” (Prov. 15:8). Moreover, God confides in the upright: “…His secret counsel is with the upright” (Pro.3:32b).

Divine Defence: God defends and saves the upright: “My defence is of God, who saves the upright in heart” (Psa.7:10). The upright are kept because of their righteousness: “Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless, but wickedness overthrows the sinner” (Pr. 13:6). The upright find strength in God’s way and are ultimately saved: “The way of the Lord is strength for the upright, but destruction will come to the workers of iniquity” (Pro. 10:29).

Divine Illumination: When everything around seems like gross darkness, there is light for the upright in heart: “Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous” (Psa.112:4). Indeed, “Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart” (Psa.97:11). The Upright has unassailable Right to Light!

Divine Prosperity and Establishment: even when they are not seeking it, the upright will find that which multitudes in the world are desperately seeking and inordinately pursuing – prosperity. Psalm 112:2-3 confirms that such establishment of prosperity shall be trans-generational: “Wealth and riches will be in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.”  God will not withhold any good thing from those who walk in uprightness (Ps. 84:11).  The upright shall enter into peace and shall possess and dwell in the Promised Land (Pr. 2:21). 

Divine Delight: the Upright are the Lord’s Delight. God delights in the upright: “Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the Lord, but the blameless in their ways are His delight” (Pr. 11:20). God enjoys the company of the upright and blesses such immeasurably: ^“this is the man who will dwell on the heights…His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him.” 

Eternal Inheritance: the upright will dwell forever with God, and “see the King in His beauty; they will see the land that is very far off” (Isa. 33: 17). The upright will dwell with God and will delight themselves in abundance of peace: “The Lord knows the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever.” (Psa.37:18).
