Bible Meditation:
1 Thessalonians 2: 1-13

“…When you received the WORD of GOD which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men… – 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Demonstrating the RIGHT ATTITUDE to GOD’S WORD reflects our Attitude to God Himself: “For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the WORD of GOD which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe” (1The.2:13). Low views of Scripture do not lend themselves to high views of God. The Bible is God’s Book – from Him, by Him, and about Him. If the Bible is God’s Word, then no other book or message demands equal esteem, reverence, and honour. His Word was not written just for our information, but for our redemption and transformation.

Living for Jesus Christ involves faithfully walking with Him every day, by listening to Him and learning about His Character and His Desires – What He loves. The best place to learn about the character and commands of our Lord Jesus and how to live faithfully for Him, is in His Word, the Bible. We must feed spiritually upon God’s Word every day, for encouragement, instruction and correction in order to live faithfully for Him in this sinful world. Our attitude and approach towards God’s Word can make the difference between a fulfilled or frustrated life.

We instinctively approach different kinds of reading material in different ways. If we read the newspaper in print or online, we come to it for general information about happenings in our city, country and globe. In reading a novel, we’re not really out to learn, but to enjoy, be entertained, and drawn into the story. When we study academic materials, text books or notes for an examination, we approach them in a more focused and serious manner, in order to retain and remember what was read and be able to use that information during the examination.

When we’re really interested in whatever is being read, we’ll give full attention to it, whereas we may just quickly skim over an email or a not-so-important material. Our attitude and approach towards what we read drastically affects our focus on it, the time and effort we put into it, and its effect on our lives. God’s Word is worthy of the greatest focus, interest and effort. Scriptures are His very words to us, written down for our benefit. They are God’s truth and power to transform our lives and help us know, love and live faithfully for our Saviour.

In order to have the proper attitude, we need to understand the divine power and impact of the Word on our lives as portrayed in scriptures:

“ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work (2Tim.3: 16-17). The Bible comes from God, to equip, empower, and train us to live abundantly, and to serve Him faithfully and effectively.

“For the WORD of GOD is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb.4:12). God’s Word is the Sword of the Spirit. It cuts to the heart and exposes inward sinfulness. It is also a mirror that exposes sins so they can be confessed and repented of, for forgiveness.

The Devil’s greatest tools are lies that he tries to cunningly present for us to accept, grab a hold of and be led into sin, guilt, shame and a wasted life (Jh.8:44). God’s Word has power to cut through Satan’s lies, expose them and tear down demonic strongholds in our lives (2Cor.10:4-5). The Bible is our weapon to fight against the deception of the devil. God’s Word is Truth, with sanctifying power (Jh.17:17). His Word frees us from habitual sin as we turn from them in repentance. His Word equips and empowers us to live holy lives for His Glory!

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
