SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS

“I will make them and the places all around My hill a BLESSING; and I will cause SHOWERS to come down in their season; there shall be SHOWERS of BLESSING” – Ezekiel 34:26

As we inch to the end of June and the beginning of the other half of the year, let’s believe the Lord for SHOWERS of BLESSINGS:  “I will make them and the places all around My hill a BLESSING; and I will cause SHOWERS to come down in their season; there shall be SHOWERS of BLESSING” (Eze. 34:26). Symbolically, the showers of blessings portray the grace of God: sovereign, needed, abundant and plenteous, timely, and multifaceted. Let’s take a moment to meditate on this prophetic promise:

Here is sovereign mercy in operation – “I will cause showers to come down in their season.” It is given to no other to say without equivocation, “I will send down showers,” except the Lord – the Sovereign Possessor of divine mercy God! There is only one voice that can speak to the clouds and bid them send the rain:  "He gives rain on the earth, and sends waters on the fields” (Job 5:10). His showers are symbolic of His grace – the gift of God, not receive by the merit of men!

Showers of blessing also signify needed grace. What would the ground do without showers? We may break the clods; we may sow our seeds, but what can we do without the rain? Just as absolutely needful is the divine blessing, we work in vain until God bestows the shower and sends salvation and all of its accompanying bounties down.

Shower of blessing infer abundant and plenteous grace: “There shall be showers.” It does not say, “There shall be drops or trickles,” but “showers.” So it is with His grace. If God gives a blessing, He usually gives it in such a measure that there is not room enough to receive it (Mal.3:10b). Plenteous grace! His abundance of grace is meant to keep us humble, make us prayerful, and make us holy. His plenteous grace pours to make us zealous, to preserve us through this life, and at last to usher us into heaven. We cannot do without God’s saturating showers of grace.

Again, this is timely grace. “I will cause showers to come down in their season”" What season are you currently experiencing? Is it the season of drought or one of heaviness and black clouds? Then that is the season for showers. Then that is the season for showers. Deuteronomy 32:25b assures, “As your days, so shall your strength be.” God’s Showers of Blessings are proportioned to the severity of your need; and His showers never miss their ordained season!

Finally, here is a multi-faceted blessing. The Lord consistently speaks of “showers” in the plural. God will send all kinds of blessings, representing “the manifold grace of God” (1Pet.4:10). All God's blessings go together, like links in a golden chain. The Lord who gives saving grace also gives sanctifying grace and super-abundant grace. He will send “showers of blessing.” Say to your soul: “Look up today, O parched plant, and open your leaves and flowers for a heavenly watering.” Trickles shall turn into holy torrents!

There shall be showers of blessing, this is the promise of love

There shall be seasons refreshing, sent from the Saviour above.

Showers of blessing. Showers of blessing we need

Mercy drops round us are falling, but for the showers we plead

There shall be showers of blessing, precious reviving again

Over the hills and the valleys, sound of abundance of rain

There shall be showers of blessing, send them upon us, O Lord

Grant to us now a refreshing, Come, and now honor Thy Word
