Bible Meditation:
Isaiah 35: 1-10

A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the HIGHWAY of HOLINESS” – Isaiah 35:8

To Walk in God’s Way is to WALK ON THE HIGHWAY OF HOLINESS: A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the HIGHWAY of HOLINESS” (Isa.35:8). Here, God promises that Israel’s land will be blessed with fertility and “the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose” (v. 2). This prophecy of the Messianic Kingdom also encourages the weak and fearful to be strong, for God will come with vengeance to save His long-oppressed people (vv.3-4). There will be gladness and shouts of joy when restored Zion will see God’s Glory, and experience His Presence, Guidance, and Protection. Israel’s highways were intended for pilgrimage, as people went up at the feasts to meet the Lord in His holy temple. This highway is a spiritual and moral representation of the “Way of the Lord,” not just a ceremonial one that Israel was used to.

The highway of holiness doesn’t need to be a literal highway. The point of the prophecy is that God will remove all obstacles and “smooth the way” for His people, enabling them to access the Kingdom blessings. Some point to the fulfilment of this prophecy as the Jews’ return from captivity in Babylon and Persia, but Isaiah’s language gives it a broader context, including physical healing and environmental blessings (vv. 5–7). The highway of holiness could also be seen to refer to Christ, the Way: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (Jh.14:6a). He is the Way of sovereign Grace that redeems us from sin; the route that has been given to the entire world. Children of God, saved by Grace are called and endowed to Walk in Holiness.

The word “highway” occurs again in Isaiah 40:3, referring to John the Baptists’ role in the Messiah’s first advent: “A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a HIGHWAY for our God.’” (Mt.3:3). It is vital to reiterate is that there is a Highway – a path that needs to be taken; and a choice to be made, to take this path. God gave His people the choice between “life and good, death and evil.” He linked living, multiplying, and taking possession of the land, to obeying His commandments and statutes, and loving Him by “walking in His ways” (Dt.30: 15-18; Jos.22:5).

What is this Highway? How do we identify the Way? Jesus gave clear instruction to finding and making the decision for this Way (Jh.14:6). The route has been given clearly to the entire world. To reject Jesus Christ is to find oneself on the highway leading to death and destruction (1Cor.6: 9-10). The highway of holiness has three important characteristics:

The Highway of Holiness is reserved for the redeemed; those who are righteous in God’s sight (v.8; Dt.28:9; Rev.22:14). The foolish or sinful cannot enter the Kingdom. Christ alone provides the Way of Holiness, having exchanged His perfect righteousness for our sin (2Cor.5:21). His righteousness is imputed to us, enabling us to be holy, as He is (1Jh.1:7).

This Highway is a place of safety, reserved for the redeemed of the Lord: “No lion will be there, nor any ravenous beast; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there, and those the Lord has rescued will return” (vv.9-10). Guided and guarded by the Holy Spirit, God’s people are safe and secure on the highway (Isa.30: 20-21; Jh.14:26; 1Jh.4:4). No wicked persons will be allowed on it. The redeemed of the Lord will walk safe and secure and never go astray.

It will be a place of favour and everlasting Joy: “They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away” (v.10). Just as the ransomed captives returned joyfully from Babylon, great rejoicing is the portion of the redeemed of the Lord who take refuge in Him (Psa.5: 11-12).

God’s children, saved by His Grace, as Victorious Believers, are called to WALK in HOLINESS! Am I walking on the Way?

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
