Psalm 37: 21-36

The law of his God is in his HEART; none of his steps shall slide” Psalm 37:31

The heart of the righteous person in Christ is a WORD-FILLED HEART: The law of his God is in his HEART; none of his steps shall slide” (Psa.37:31). The Law of God is synonymous with the WORD of GOD. Psalm 37 compares the Heritage of the Righteous and the Calamity of the Wicked. In this psalm, David contrasts the way God saves and secures His people, with the ruin awaiting the wicked. Much of this seems to be based on his experiences: “I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread” (v.25). Again, I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a native green tree. Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found” (vv.35-36).

As with many other passages in Psalms and Proverbs, this text encourages godly wisdom. It teaches that those who reject God and His ways can expect uncertainty on earth and disaster in eternity. With specific reference to today’s Bible meditation text, verses 21–31 point out the blessings of the righteous, while verses 32-36 depict the triumph of the righteous despite the superficial exaltation of the wicked. David described not only the blessings of the righteous, but also their character and conduct. The righteous: “shows mercy and gives” (v.21b); “is ever merciful, and lends” (v.26a); his mouth “speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks justice” (v.30); and “the law of his God s in his heart” (v.31a). In turn, the Lord blesses the righteous abundantly, with:

The Promise of an Inheritance: “For those blessed by Him hall inherit the earth, but those cured by Him shall be cut off” (v.22); The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell in it forever” (v.29).

Divine Guidance in Life’s decisions: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way” (v.23).

Divine Protection: Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand” (v.24).

Divine Provision: “I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread” (v.25).

Transgenerational Blessings and Good Posterity: “…his descendants are blessed…and dwell forevermore” (v.26b).

Divine Preservation: For the Lord loves justice, and does not forsake His saints; they are preserved forever, but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off” (v.28).

In verse 31, David revealed why the mouth of the righteous utters wisdom (v.30): It’s because those who are truly righteous have the Word of God in their heart. Jesus said: “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Mt.12:34). If we give God's Word a heartfelt welcome, it will produce wisdom, which will in turn direct our steps – our choices, decisions, and actions. What we say and what we do will be ordered by God’s Wisdom that’s stored in our hearts: How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to YOUR WORD. With my WHOLE HEART I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! YOUR WORD I have hidden in my HEART, that I might not sin against You” (Psa.119:9-11). How much of God’s Word is in my heart?

When God commissioned Joshua to lead Israel into Canaan, He told him to meditate on the Book of the Law day and night and to “observe to do according to all that is written in it” (Jos.1:8). He promised Joshua: “For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Psalm 1:2–3 employs the analogy of a fruitful tree to describe the person who delights in God's Word and meditates on it day and night. Love for the Word makes one like a well-watered tree “that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” As we fill our hearts with God’s Word, our lives would be filled with wisdom, ordered steps, prosperity and good success!

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
