WORSHIP THE ANCIENT OF DAYS

“I watched till thrones were put in place, and THE ANCIENT OF DAYS was seated...”– Daniel 7:9a

Beloved, it’s an awesome and unparalleled privilege to WORSHIP THE ANCIENT of DAYS: “I watched till thrones were put in place, and TE ANCIENT OF DAYS was seated; His garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire” (Dan.7:9). “The Ancient of Days” is an awe-inspiring Name, which first appears in the Book of Daniel when Daniel had a God-given prophetic dream and visions about the Gentile nations of the world and God’s dealings with them. Part of his dream gave him a peep into heaven. And what a sight he saw – The Ancient of Days unveiled!

Daniel described a courtroom scene in a time of future judgement of the Gentile nations. Thrones were set up and the court sat! These cruel nations had turned their back on God and had little care for human life, treated Israel with contempt, and conquered in terribly despotic ways! Now, they would face God, the Great Judge on His throne with innumerable heavenly beings, ready upon command, to carry out His just sentence! The vesture and hair of the Ancient of Days were described in such a way that one can only imagine He shone so brightly that it was blinding! This was a beautiful way to portray His holiness, righteousness, and purity!

Daniel described a scene that’s beyond human vocabulary. He used the everyday things he knew to create a picture of something too magnificent to describe. He saw the Him Who sat on a flaming throne with hair and clothes that were as white as snow, and the throne had wheels of fire. His throne was ablaze with fire – symbolic of the Glory of God. His Glory overwhelmed the scene! The river of fire flowing out from His throne is His Presence – in this case, His presence to administer justice. The flaming throne was symbolic of judgment while the white hair and beard signified that God existed before time began; and denotes God as our Judge.

The Ancient of Days has lived through the entire course of human history: “Indeed before the day was, I am He…” (Isa.43:13). God existed before days were created. He alone is the Ancient of Days! He knows all the deeds of all humans and of all kingdoms of the earth! God is a firsthand Eyewitness to all events and does not need to rely on a second-hand witness to tell Him the deeds of anyone or anything at any time in all of history. This Title wraps up the Divine Attributes: Omnipresent – present everywhere; Omniscient – knows everything; and Eternal – no beginning and no end. He is too big for us to wrap our miniature minds around. He is incomprehensible: Beyond understanding, because His Character, Ways, and Acts are so much higher than ours.  

The ‘Ancient of Days’ has seen it all! He is the Firsthand Participant in the past, present, and future. We are reassured that no matter what has happened or what will happen, He can handle it! Moses says of Him: “The Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other” (Deut.4:39b). Because we Worship the Ancient of Days, we need not be troubled by the events unfolding in our world. He was Lord of His creation in the beginning and is Lord of coming events. While we don’t., He knows and understands the future and the present. So, we can live one day at a time, trusting Him, and bearing witness of Him.

The Ancient of Days is always in control. Our lives, times and eternity are in His Hands! One day all will know that the God of the future is the same God of the past. All will recognize Him as the AGELESS GOD Who sees and knows everything. He has always been long before creation drew its first breath. The Ancient of Days will rule forever. Let’s bow in awe of His Power and Glory!
