Daily Digest: Capstone Capsule

“For it is GOD who WORKS in YOU both to will and to do for His good pleasure” – Philippians 2:13

GOD as the PERFECT PROFESSIONAL desires to work in and through us in our diverse careers and callings: “For it is GOD who WORKS in YOU both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Phil.2:13). We cannot fit God into a box. Before the earth was created, He was, and is and is to come. The Omnipresent, Omniscient, and Omnipotent One wants to work in and through our human vessels using the platforms of our careers, professions, ad vocations. We need Him to get actively involved, because He singlehandedly engaged in an array of incredible jobs, each for a purpose and a reason.

Here are Five additional occupations that God – the First, Original, and Perfect Professional – has modelled for us:

Surveyor: “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. Who determined its dimensions and stretched out it’s surveying lines” (Job 38: 4-5). This response to Job confirms God’s work as the Surveyor.

Builder: “For every house has a builder but the one who built everything is God” (Heb.3:4). God built a world out of nothing material. His Word was the raw material. He put in the building blocks of creation, determining where each part would fit in. Psalm 127:1a declares: “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.” Again, our Lord Jesus Christ promised to formidably build His Church (Mt.16:18). He has engaged in doing this steadfastly through the ages (1Cor.3:9).

Meteorologist: “Who can understand the spreading of the clouds and the thunder that rolls forth from heaven? See how he spreads the lightning around him and it lights up the depths of the sea” (Job 36: 29-30, NLT). Before the world could understand the weather and the seasons, God had already determined this.

Cosmologist: “Can you direct the movement of the stars – binding the cluster of the Pleiades or loosening the cords of Orion? Can you direct the constellations through seasons…do you know the laws of the universe? Can you use them to regulate the earth? (Job 38: 31, 32a-33, NLT). Before humanity coined the words cosmology (the study of the natural order of the universe) or astronomy (the study of matter outside the earth), God was already talking about how the stars and the universe work.

Negotiator and War Strategist: “The Lord is a Man of War; The Lord is His name” (Exo.15:3). When Moses was required to meet with Pharaoh, it was God who told him what to say (Exo.7:14-19). God led the negotiations between Israel and Egypt. Furthermore, it was God who provided the strategy and the way to win, for most of the wars and battles Israel fought.
