WISDOM FOR WITTY INVENTIONS

I WISDOM dwell with PRUDENCE, and find out knowledge of WITTHY INVENTIONS – Proverbs 8:12

That our God is the Ancient of Days does not mean He is outdated or ‘old-fashioned’! His Wisdom brings witty inventions and commands unique innovations. Inventive genius, creative imagination, expanding knowledge, innovative solutions, and their applications for beneficial uses are among God’s numerous gifts. The creativity that invented antibiotics, computers, washing machines, microwaves, and airplanes emanated from the Ultimate Creator of all things and Upholder of all Life – the Giver of all good and perfect gifts, “the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (Jam.1:17).

Proverbs chapter 8, which personifies wisdom better than any other chapter in the Book, can be divided into four sections: a salutation and invitation by Lady Wisdom (vs.1-11); the natural and spiritual blessings that follow wisdom (vs.12-21); God’s eternal use of wisdom in creation (vs.22-31); and her concluding warning (vs.32-36). The key spiritual blessings are: righteousness and the hatred of evil. The listed natural blessings are: counsel, understanding, strength, reigning, justice, ruling, riches, honour, durable riches, judgment, substance, and treasures. Wisdom is indeed rewarding!

The practical benefits of wisdom are great and diverse. Wherever wisdom is honoured through the fear of God and love for His Word, smart innovations and inventions follow. Wisdom is the source of insight and prudence for human advancement. Prudence is applied Wisdom that leads to new methods to accomplishing old tasks in an easier, more economical, and more efficient way. Wisdom seeks better solutions to problems others accept as inevitable. Dissatisfaction with traditional methods, passion to experiment, lack of fear of failure, capacity for creative thinking, and a vision of hitherto non-existent products, are traits that make inventors, and these are gifts from God!

Every time you read about a new discovery, benefit from a new technique, use new technology, or see a new solution, remember to thank God for the “witty invention” and exalt the wisdom that unveiled, communicated, conveyed, or activated it for your benefit. Appreciate innovations that enhance your life, even if you think the heathen invented them. The advancement of any society depends on the degree of wisdom and blessing they have from the Most High. Like God sending sunshine and rain on the wicked, some innovations may also come through those who didn’t know Him as you do.
