FROM DUNGHILL TO DISTINCTION

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; that He may set him with princes, even with the princes of His people – Psalms 113: 7-8

The scriptures are replete with dunghill-to-distinction testimonies: stunning stories of individuals who experienced restoration from a ‘low-estate’ status to the pinnacle of distinction. Joshua’s was such a sudden breakthrough that saw this messenger of Moses being promotion without prior notice to take over the shoes of his master and lead Israel into the Promised land (Jos.1:1-8). David’s case was that of a shepherd boy who also, without prior notice, was anointed king over God’s people (1Sam.16:11-13). He became the epitome of Kingship in Israel.

God is no respecter of gender. Against all odds, Esther, a slave girl in a foreign land suddenly became the queen of that powerful nation in order to fulfil the purpose of preserving the posterity of God’s people (Est.2:16-18). God nurtured Esther from seeming nonentity into stardom – celebrity-status. God is also not a respecter of race. Ruth was from Moab, a nation of terrible idol worshippers (Num.21:29). Out of this nation that God had already condemned, He pulled out this woman and privileged her to become a great grand mother of Jesus Christ (Mt.1:5).

The God of Restoration is always seeking for that poor person He’ll lift from the dunghill to sit among the nobles; someone He’ll rescue from shame and ignominy and establish in dignity and royalty. It is His pattern to discountenance our lowly family background and sovereignly select whom He wills for exceptional elevation and uncommon lifting. As you yield to the LORD, obey His Word, serve Him with the whole of your heart, and offer Him worthy worship and undiluted devotion, the Restorer of destinies will select you for an unusual favour. He’ll cause the flow of favour to surround you (Psa.5:12; 30:7).

How is your present situation? Are you dejected, rejected, impoverished or vulnerable? God’s Mercy will speak for you. Where people have written you off, God never does. When God has not written you off, nobody can: “Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded it?” (Lam.3:37). God always has the final say! When He is on your side, nobody can be against you (Rom.8:31). No agent of darkness or wickedness is allowed to tamper with or manipulate your destiny. In Christ Jesus, your place of distinction is guaranteed. Welcome to your season of Restoration!
