GOD’S WORDS OF LIGHT

“For it is God who commanded LIGHT to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts…” – 2 Corinthians 4:6a

The Story of Redemption will be incomplete without GOD’S WORDS of LIGHT: “For it is God who commanded LIGHT to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2Cor.4:6). The same applies to the Story of Creation: “And God said: “Let there be light”; and there was light” (Gen.1:3). God is the Author and Commander of Light! In complete contrast, the devil drives darkness: “But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them” (vv.3-4).

As in the Beginning, God always calls light out of darkness (Gen.1:3). Even now, wherever darkness is lurking, we’re in for divine encounter with God’s Liberating Light: “Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising” (Isa.60: 1-3). Moreover, God says to doers of righteousness: “Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, and your darkness shall be as the noonday” (Isa.58:10b).

Unredeemed human hearts are like dark, deep holes, with no light in them. God is like the sun, the Fountain of light, shining upon and in our hearts. It is pleasant to behold the sun in the firmament; but more pleasant and profitable for the gospel to shine into and enlighten seeking hearts. The devil’s design is to keep humanity in ignorance. Knowing that he cannot keep the light of the gospel of Christ out of the world, he spares no pains to bloc or blind minds from the gospel, or set them against it. Praise God! His Ministers are servants to the souls of men who must never become servants to the lusts of men.

As light was the dawn of the first creation; so, in the new creation, the light of the Holy Spirit is the first divine work upon the human soul. The beautiful mystery is that the treasure of God’s Light is deposited in earthen vessels: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us” (v.7). Rather than sending angels or sinless sons of men to disseminate the glorious gospel, God chose us – humble, weak vessels of clay – so that His power might be more glorified as He upholds us. Everything in creation began with: “Let there be Light”! And all that God has purposed to bring to reality in our lives will be by His Light: “GOD IS LIGHT and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 Jh.1:5b).

Beloved, let us meditate on few more Witnesses of Light:

“In Him was Life, and the LIFE was the LIGHT of MEN” (Jh.1:4). Jesus is my Life and Light! Death and darkness are defeated!

“I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the LIGHT of LIFE” (Jh.8:12). Following Jesus, I have the Right to Light, and the Light of Life; Light that guarantees fullness of Zoe – Divine, Winning, Triumphant!

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden…. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Mt.5:14-16). In Christ, I am the light to my world; a shining city on a hill, illuminating my location and generations. I have a Mandate of Light to my world.

“You are all SONS of LIGHT and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness” (1 The. 5:5). Alleluia!
