GOD – MOST UPRIGHT

The way of the just is Uprightness; O MOST UPRIGHT, You weigh the path of the just – Isaiah 26:7

Scriptures testify to one of God’s titles – “Most Upright” – and His virtue of Uprightness. Moses’ hymn of praise depicts these concurring themes: “He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and UPRIGHT is He” (Deut.32:4). God is upright, and He has pleasure in uprightness: “I know also, my God, that You test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things…” (1 Chr. 29:17). The Most Upright wants His children to walk uprightly and dwell in the Land of Uprightness!

Not only is God upright, but He has also created humanity in uprightness: “God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes” (Eccl.7:29).  However, humanity, through its crooked schemes has become a twisted mess, and is far from the Creator’s purposes.  Although humankind has remarkably turned from the original upright position, God has not given up on His creatures: He still “instructs sinners in His ways” (Psa.25:8).

From the inception of God’s relationship with Israel, His nature has been revealed as faithful and truthful. To find a straightforward deity was uncommon in antiquity. But the God of Israel possessed rock-solid, upfront integrity that His people never saw waver. Only a God who was blameless and upright in character could require the pleasure of total loyalty and genuine attention to the uprightness of the law: “For the righteous LORD loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright” (Psa.11:7). Israel could find its true pleasure only in what pleased the Almighty God ethically and morally.

Intimacy and Friendship with God are guaranteed when you walk in an upright way guided by His upright word through the sincerity of an upright heart: ““Good and upright is the LORD; therefore He teaches sinners in the way” (Psa.25:8). Also, “For the word of the Lord is right and all His work is done in truth” (Psa.33:4). God’s ways are just and upright: “For the ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walks in them, but transgressors stumble in them” (Hos.14:9). “The LORD is righteous in all His ways, gracious in all His works” (Psa.145:17). As you learn to know the Most Upright, by Grace you’ll be empowered to walk in uprightness, equipped to manifest works of integrity, and established to never stumble or fall.
