LIGHT OF DIVINE SECRETS (7)

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” – John 16:13a

Our Lord Jesus Christ affirms that intimacy with the Holy Spirit enhances access to the LIGHT of DIVINE SECRETS: “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come” (Jh.16: 12-13). The more intimate we are with His Spirit, the smoother we’ll flow in the deep things of God. Though “hidden” from natural men, God’s elevating secrets are encoded in His Word. Nothing enriches like access into divine secrets. Let’s be alert to embrace the Light of Divine Secrets and diligently walk therein.

The disciples could not bear certain things (v.12). But they would – through the Spirit – be guided “into all truth” (v.13). The Ministry of the Holy Spirit is to “guide,” “speak,” “declare,” and facilitate a fuller understanding of Jesus’ revelation. Just as Jesus did, the Spirit reveals God. That the Spirit speaks “whatever He hears” (v.13) is in complete continuity with Jesus’s method of revealing only what He hears from the Father (Jh. 8:26-28; 12:49; 14:10; 15:15; 17:7-8). Even though Jesus is no longer physically present, the Believer can trust that He and the Holy Spirit share the same Source of Revelation, to enjoy seamless access for the Light of Divine Secrets.

Over the ages, God has revealed secrets to diverse people by means of visions, dreams, angelic visitations, and the light of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. On the basis of favour, God confided in Noah as he received secrets relating to an impending flood of judgement. He responded in prompt obedience: “Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did” (Gen.6:22); “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith” (Heb.11:7).

Abraham caught the Vision of an invisible city built and made by God (Heb.11:10). Jacob accessed the Secret Place where angels of God ascended and descended on a heavenly ladder to usher him into covenant blessings (Gen.28:11-16). Joseph attained the Zenith of Distinction through the unravelling of secrets (Gen.37: 5-10; 41: 14-16). Moses at the burning bush had a vision of glory that saw him through trying times in leading God’s people out of Egypt (Exo.3: 1-10). In the New Covenant, Divine Secrets are “mysteries of the kingdom” sealed up in Scriptures (Lk.8:10). They belong to as many of His children are alive in the spirit: “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1Cor.2:14).
