LIGHT OF HOPE AND HELP (6)

“Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as WE HOPE IN YOU” – Psalm 33:22

The Mercy of God commands His LIGHT of HOPE and HELP: “Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our HELP and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as WE HOPE IN YOU” (Psa.33: 20-22). Verse 22 is a closing prayer: “Dear Lord, let Your unfailing love and loving devotion surround us; for our hope is in you alone. Amen”! God’s Mercy, also called His Unfailing Love, is His basis for blessing us with the Light of Hope and Help. As we put our Hope in God, His cycle of Unfailing Love never ceases to be with us. That our Hope is in the Lord means that our soul waits for Him, as our Help and Shield.

We cannot rely on horses and armies – self resources – for deliverance: “No king is saved by the multitude of an army; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a VAIN HOPE for safety; neither shall it deliver any by its great strength” (vv.16-17). As God’s people, our hope is not drawn from the well of earthly security, but from a deeper well of faith and trust in Him. Even if certain aspects of the future still look dim and bleak, we can cling to God whose eyes are locked on us: “Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield” (vv.18-20). The Lord is our Help, Shield, and Salvation. Trusting in His holy name and unfailing love causes our hearts to rejoice.

When our Hope is in the Lord whose Love never fails and our trust is rooted in His Truth, we’re sure that His love will sustain us. We have positive assurance in His promises. Even if life’s struggles persist, our Hope in God will remain steadfast. It cannot be taken from us. It does not depend on anyone or anything. God is constant and trustworthy. Even when life is unclear, and the way ahead looks foggy, we can rest in His Love. Knowing that we’re never out of His sight or out of reach instils in us Hope that He is in control and our souls can rest in Him.

When we face life’s challenges, where is our Hope? Is our Hope in the Lord? Sometimes, Hope may falter in the face of trials and troubles, but it’ll never fail! When our Hope is firmly rooted in God, our rejoicing never stops: “For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name” (v.21). May the Lord renew our Hope and strengthen our trust as we embrace His unfailing Love!
