LIGHT OF PURPOSE AND VISION (1)

“Being predestined according to the PURPOSE of HIM who works ALL THINGS according to the counsel of His will” – Ephesians 1:11b

Welcome to February! The first dimension to consider in this Year of Divine Light and Life is the LIGHT of PURPOSE AND VISION: “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the PURPOSE of HIM who works ALL THINGS according to the counsel of His will” (Eph.1:11). God works all things to align with His Purpose – according to the counsel of His Will! That’s why ALL THINGS are guaranteed to “work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to HIS PURPOSE” (Rom.8:28). Our goal today is to define two key terms – Purpose and Vision – and appreciate their significance as Dimensions of Divine Light and Life.

PURPOSE means “reason for being” – why something or someone exists. My Purpose is the reason for my being. Our Life’s Purpose is the primary reason why we’re here on earth; the chief reason for our being. God has a Purpose for everything and everyone He created. For example, “God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also” (Gen.1:16). If God could have purposes for the sun, moon, and myriad of stars, how much more Man, who was made in His Image and Likeness? God’s Purposes pre-exist our existence: “according to the ETERNAL PURPOSE which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Eph.3:11).

Purpose is crucial to determining the outcome of all things in life! All of creation revolves around “the PURPOSE of HIM” who performs and perfects all things – including things relating to our lives – “according to the counsel of His will” (v.11). Nothing is accidental with God. We were born by His Purpose and for His Purpose. But we must align with Him for the Fulfilment of Purpose; which is where Vision comes in!

VISION is the unveiling of PURPOSE. Vision is the God-given revelation of God’s Purpose to be accomplished by a person, group of people, or an organisation. Vision is insight into or unfolding of a divine plan as it relates to a nation, a group of people or an individual. Divine Vision is a divine Picture with a divine purpose. The Vision for each of our lives is the Revelation of the Reason for our Being! God puts within each of His children, the spiritual Power of Vision: “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (Eph.3:20). In essence, Purpose is not an end in itself. Purpose manifests to the human spirit, as Vision; hence the notion of the LIGHT of PURPOSE and VISION. The commitment to fulfilling the Vision is what is called Mission!

Illumination by the LIGHT of PURPOSE and VISION is crucial to the discovery, definition, productive pursuit, and Fulfilment of Purpose.
