LORD, LET ME NOT MISS MY DESTINY

“But now your kingdom shall not continue…” – 1 Samuel 13:14a

Beloved, please join me to meditate and pray: “LORD, LET ME NOT MISS MY DESTINY – my dominion shall not be deleted! God never wills for any of His children to make a shipwreck of their life’s assignment. It’s sad when one reads the stories of greatly anointed individuals in Scripture, who missed or fell short of their destiny. God chose a destined assignment, work or ministry for each of them, but they ended up aborting His plan. They often started out right, moving for a while in the power of their calling; but in most cases, ended in shame and ruin – missing God's destiny for their lives! That shall not be our portions, in Jesus name!

A Christian could be so pressed down and troubled, in such despair and despondency, he becomes convinced he’s not going to make it, and subsequently gives up. Yet, this was never God’s will. His desire is for us to stand firm, focused, rooted, and in Christ overcome all challenges: “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ…” (2Cor.2:14); “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the Victory that has overcome the world – our faith” (1Jh.5:4). Paul spoke of challenges, but also the Triumph of Grace: “We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed” (2Cor.4:8-9). Pressure is meant to release the treasures within us! Alas, many Christians are caught up in a spiritual tension between God’s destiny for their lives and the enemy’s deceptive, captivating schemes. We must individually choose to put God first in all things and at all times, and not to compromise with the world, flesh and the devil.

God chose Saul to lead Israel out of servitude to the Philistines. When Samuel first laid eyes on Saul, the Lord said, “...There he is, the man of whom I spoke to you. This one shall reign over My people” (1Sam.9:17b). Samuel didn't choose Saul. Israel didn’t choose him. Rather, God appointed and divinely transformed Saul: “...God gave him another heart...” (1Sam.10:9).  Samuel assured him: “…God is with you” (1Sam.10:7). Here was a man appointed by God, moved upon by the Holy Spirit, gifted with a spirit of prophecy, destined by God to lead Israel – and God was with him. Saul started out right. For a while he lived his destiny, walking in the fear of God. He quickly won a great battle against the Ammonites. And the people came home praising God, saying: "...Who is he who said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us? Bring the men, that we may put them to death…” (1Sam.11:12-13). Yet, one of the most tragic pictures in Scripture is when this favoured king began to fall apart.

Saul had walked in his destiny only briefly – yet God fully intended for him to live out his days in divine blessings. He was to have been remembered as Israel’s deliverer from the Philistines’ bondage. But Saul missed his destiny! He began to disintegrate, caving in to his carnal need for human applause and acceptance (1Sam.13: 11-14). He compromised to attain these things, and missed God’s plan for him. Saul’s heart smote him with fear as he faced great military battles toward the end of his life. He ended up consulting with the evil witch of Endor, admitting: “...God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore…" (28:15). What a chilling and dreadful fall – God was no longer with him! Saul ended up prostrating himself before a witch. And he died in shame -- forsaken by God. These words might easily have been written on his tombstone: “The man who missed his destiny.”

One can be called to a great, divine purpose, walking in God's grace, anointing, and blessing – and then suddenly veer off on a tangent, serving self or Satan, ending up abandoned by God. There is no excuse for making a shipwreck of destiny! The discovery and fulfilment of destiny is not a volunteering assignment. It is a responsibility to respond to! You will not miss your destiny!
