The Nature of Words (1)

Words are backed up by living personalities. God spoke the first words from eternity past. At creation, His Word spoke things into being. God is a Living Being – “God is a Spirit” (John 4:24). His Word is backed up by His Spirit – by His Person. In essence, the Word and the Spirit are inseperable.

Once upon a time, in ages past, an arch-angel of God, named Lucifer, allowed his heart to be lifted up in pride, by reason of his excellent beauty and unequalled wisdom. In the process, he corrupted his erstwhile holy and perfect nature of light and took on an evil nature of iniquity and a cloak of darkness. Ezekiel 28: verses 12–18 provide a fuller account of the rebellion and consequent fall of Lucifer.

The immediate consequence of Lucifer’s fall was not only the transformation of his nature, but also his words, which began to fully express a new evil nature. Isaiah 14: 13-14 record his boastings…I will ascent to heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High…rebellious words proceeding from a heart filled with pride and iniquity. The many ‘I’s in this short text reveal the person behind the words…That means the devil’s personality (a liar) cannot be separated from his words (lies). He is one with his words.
